So I bought my truck in FL where there is no front plate required...truck did not come with the mounting bracket. Now I live in VT where they require a front plate...

Did your trucks come with the bracket? Should it have?

Gray wire, Some lights in the bed area, and some character marks throughout.
Mine didn't, I have it wired right now because I still don't want to have to drill a hole in my 2001 bumper. Sad I know.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
They don't come with one unless it is bought in a state that requires front plates, usually.

    Build thread in sig...
i don't know about our trucks, but i swapped out a plate on my dad's car once and it was just two holes drilled in the plastic with the large threaded screws holding it in. they almost looked like shorter and fatter dreywall screws.

You will see 2 dimples in the bumper, That's where you will drill the holes cuz it's thicker behind and you can use stainless sheet metal screws like I did..

They don't make a 'bracket' for a front plate on our trucks. It sucks. Like others have said, there are two dimples where you screw the plate directly into the bumper.

I suggest putting some sort of self-adheisive padding on the back of the plate when you screw it in to keep it from scratching the bumper. Of course, putting it on means you're going to have a couple of great big holes in the bumper anyway, so what's another few scratches.

I had a vanity plate on my front bumper for a while. I got some of that heavy-duty self-adhesive velcro from WalMart and used the soft side to line the back of the plate. When I took it off there were no scratches. I ended up getting a new bumper b/c somebody crashed into me in a parking lot... I didn't put the plate back on b/c I didn't want to re-screw into the bumper.

I bought a plastic black license plate holder from wally world for 10 bucks, came with large thread screws and keeps the edges of the plate from scratching the clear coat on the bumper cover. cheap, easy and safe.

Probably the easiest way to go. Good call.

I just wish there was a way to put a plate on there w/o doing permanent damage to the bumper.

Dealer drilled two holes in my bumper. I removed it and added a couple of plastic washers behind the plate between the plate and the bumper to keep the plate from scratching the bumper. Required to have a front plate in California.

I was looking at the 08 4runners and they mount the plates by using clips that are attached to the lower vents.........

I am going to see if I can get the part numbers.....just another idea....

^^^ Let us know if that works out... but I believe the bumpers are different enough that it won't.

I here that man, when I got pulled over couple of weeks ago and was asked about my front plate I told the officer that I had the bracket on order thru Toyota (lie) I ask him what's the purpous of a front plate and his comment was cuz it's the law.. I used to give donations to the state troopers and now when they call for money I am going to tell them that as soon as they look away at the BS laws and tell the young gungho troopers that it's not a big deal I will start giving again and don't tell me to write my congresman cuz they are so full of corruption it's sickening oh f__ket don't get me started on our corrupt judcial and political system..
Oh yeah the front plate is a bad idea..

Knowingly that high you still put it on?? The kicker in Missouri is that a tint ticket is a safety violation and $81 a seat belt violation is $25 go figure..

A few years ago I shipped a 4X4 downed to Belize where i spent 6 months building a summer house. I got my insurance sticker to put on the windshield and then went to the " Lands Department " and paid for my tags. ( front & back ) They were out of metal plates so, the teller hand wrote this small but very polite note explaining the matter and stamped it. She explained to me to show it to an officer if I got stopped.

I had to drive through a Check Point twice a day between where i was renting and to my house site so i got used to whipping out this very used piece of paper. I kept checking in with " Lands" every week and was always told the tags would be in next week. I couldn't call them, I had to go and stand in line for a half an hour.
After the seventh week I knocked off work at noon one hot Sat. and proceeded to get a little " Nice-Up " at the local bar. On the way home at the Check-Point the guard looks at the front of the vehicle and asked " Where are your front plates ? "
I replied " It is in the same place as my back plate". He gave me this classical look of
" WTF ,This stupid Gringo put two plates on the back of his truck?" before he could say anything I showed him my magical paper. Then he had this Big grin on his face and said " You got me good this time man " so I handed him a cold bottle of water, and off I go.
Anytime I saw him after that he would give me that same big grin and just wavy me through. I did get my plates after 11 visits to " Lands ".
