I live in Texas, but I am wondering if the different Models of the Taco have different maintenance plans. This is my first Toyota, and we were invited to a new owner's dinner at the dealership. They had many techs there to answer questions, and one guest engineer from Toyota. There were many questions asked of course, but one asked was the 10,000 mile oil change. The techs and engineer both agreed on that recommendation. I had NEVER heard of it before, but as I said I have not been a full time tech for many years, so lots has changed. I have fervently changed oil every 3,000 miles religiously on all of my vehicles. One of my other vehicles is just over 200,000 miles and the other is over 165,000 miles. Frequent Oil changes definitely save the engine life.

Could be a numbers game with manufacturers. If then paid for only three oil change that would mean 15,000 is our last free one. That doesn't sound good to most so 3 at 10k to 30k sounds better. I'm going full synthetic at 5k.

I think I may also go that route at 5000 miles. I love this new TACO, I got exactly what I wanted in the TRD OR model; so I want to take care of it and have it last. I am JUST assuming, but maybe the oil filtration system is something super. The Taco uses a canister type of oil filter which was widely used on most vehicles I think back in the early 1940's and 1950's .... LOL. Maybe this switch from a spin on type of filter really separates the bad particles at the minute micron levels.

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
You have to weigh driving habits and environmentals against manufacturer's recommendations. I generally change bt 5 and 7 thousand miles. If you are unsure, use the recommendation as a bench mark but get your oil sampled and decide weather you have more life in it.
But that's not always true because you get water build up in your oil over time. Depending on where you live, you need to consider changing it periodically regardless of miles.

i change my oil ever 12k miles. Per blackstone labs my motor is "perfect" and told me im safe to go more if i'd like. Good oil, good filter and todays technology does wonders.

Wow that is incredible. Thanks for sharing. Are you using the Toyota dealership to change the oil with "their" brand/type or do you have a specific oil brand that allows you to get that type of mileage?

i use amsoil XL and their filter. but previously used Mobil1 and a wix filter. I highly recommend doing Blackstone labs oil analysis for motor/oil testing to see where the motor is. I kept changing at 10k miles but they told me im safe with 12k miles easily.

Wow, Thx I will definitely look into this ....... I live in the country; dealership about 35 minutes away. Less oil changes cheaper and helps cut down unnecessary travel time. I used to take oil samples for customers years ago when I was at a dealership ..... no idea why "I" wouldn't do it myself on my vehicles ......duh.

I am genuinely curious if they are still together.
