If he goes 5100's and wants 2.5" of lift he should get some springs or something else.

 

Hopefully no one else who actually has the parts you want chimes in with a differing opinion. It sure makes giving advice a little more difficult than it should be.

 

I can have toyota replace the just the leaf springs and not get new shocks or any lift out of it. Their estimate was $1600... lol

I agree with @DCSBFTMFW I have the Dakars as well with the nitros though. for my everyday stuff it is a little rough and I have armor in the rear. however when I have camping/wheeling stuff it is close to frozen and kind of thawed butter. The Front is the money part though... get something good now or you will be changing it out until you find what is right for you and spend much more than you wanted to.

 

New OEM leafs and 5100s front and rear at .85 or 1.75 will give you a noticeable difference in appearance and not ride like shit and still be what you'll spend just for the Dakar leaf packs that you probably won't like.

Since you're trying to not spend a bunch of money..

 

What about the allpro standard duty 3inch lift leaf pack?

If you put 5100s @ 2.5" and Dakars in the rear, your ass end will be at least 2" high because the Dakars lift ~2.75". You can remove the third to bring them down to 2.25ish, which would maintain front rake. Like everyone else said, it's going to be a rough setup either way. I wouldn't recommend setting the 5100s @ 2.5". Save up for coils. You'll thank yourself.

 

Either way I need to get leaf springs they cant wait. I dont want to go oem replacements though. What do you suggest? @Arailt

 

Another thing that determines where you set the spring perch plate on the 5100's is factory weight up front? Add a bumper and what's the weight of it? Bumper and winch combined weight? All these will help select spring and spring rate. OME 2884,2885,2886 or your favorite brand spring. Everyone has their opinions and can read what everyone else does or says on here. But, how many of you actually have installed any of the suspension components we talk about? Or many different brands of these same components???

 

I have factory springs set at 2.5" like OP originally thought he should select. I'm going to real coilovers shortly. So yes, some of us have the parts and knowledge to comment on this. There is little to no difference in overloading the spring with the 5100's to 2.5" or sticking an in strut spacer in there.

OP should, if he wants a nice ride, install something where the front springs will not be overloaded. I've kept out of the rear spring discussion because, to be honest, without knowing OP's loading and driving habit it's a random guess what he needs.

Yes. Well I had the coils loaded up on the 5100's by the place that sold me the 5100's just to save time.

I do almost all of my own work. ECGS bushing fix, light bar, front hidden bumper, rear AAL, LED lights inside and out, etc etc all were done myself. A lot of people on here do their own work. That's how you save the most money. BTW before I owned a Tacoma I had never torn apart a truck like that before all by myself, so basically with the will, knowledge, and time anyone should be able to do it.

Shit I totally agree! I don't have an alignment machine or spring press , you can disassemble and repress the springs via a large enough floor Jack and lowering the LCA! You can watch a video that shows this easily done. Then it's pulling your balls back down and doing it!!HaHa

 

There are a few options if you want 1.5" - 2" of rear lift. You could do Wheeler's 8 leaf, Deaver 10 leaf, or Toytec Boss 10 leaf. All-Pro and OME get you closer to 3". The cheapest route would probably be to find a pair of lightly used 3+1 OEM leafs and throw a progressive AAL in.
