Man super :jellydance: of the shepherds. If I was home regularly I'd already have one. That or a Belgian Malinois.

Found an old rusted up axe head in the woods looking for firewood a couple months ago. I picked it up and set it on the porch and kinda forgot about it. It was really just a hunk of rust but I figured one of these days i would sand it down and try to figure out if it was worth bringing back to life.

Well... today was that day. Picked up some 80 grit sand paper and started going to town a little at a time. After a while I started to make out the stamp "Lakeside". Did some research and turns out it is from around the 50's. Other than the heavy rusting it was in really good shape. Didn't have much "mushrooming" at all on the poll and the bit still had a lot of life left in her.

    Begin restoration.

I didn't get any pictures when it was in really bad shape and for that I apologize. It sort of came together kind of fast.

Here is after a lot of exploratory sanding.

Time for a long vinegar bath...

    Bathing for 2 hours...

    More soakage....

In the meantime... went and picked up a new Hickory handle. It has a shitty finish on it so i hit it with some 80, 220, and 400 grit. I wanted it to match the head to I put 1 light sloppy coat of stain, and a bunch of coats of linseed oil.

Here is after 2 or 3 coats...

    That is it for now...

This is why I hate California. If I could find a place to go off in the woods, I'd only find trash and bodies. Nothing cool pops up here.

Good find. I enjoy projects like this as well. Nothing like a good axe.

this is such a beautiful pic dude... The dogs are loving the shit out of that. I can't wait to get out and camp in my new rig. Smells too new on the inside. I had build up a nice layer of musk in KRULL that will take time to rebuild. It smelt like man odor and camp fire......

just cut my bedsides. glad the anticipation is over. did a rough cut though, and hope i'll have enough gap with just the one cut. following the HC install on how to measure required some rereads, re-interprets, re-measures...

great find on the axe head...http://www.nwaxeco.com

Also @sawbladeduller nice to see you didn't remove the plastic corner pieces, no need to as The instructions do say to remove them.

    ..how is battery search going?
..ive found a rebranded Deka group31 AGM at a local supplier, but still thinking it. need to order that battery cage you got.
...putting the bumper on was hard. used two 6 ton jack stands and Hi-lift, and a 5 pound hammer to get the holes to line up, still to place the swing gate yet
