Is the oil pump issue only for the 4.0 v6 or 2.7 4cyl also??

So.....now that it's fixed, are we going to do anything with/to the truck? Enquiring minds want to know! :goingcrazy:

My engine wasn't nearly as loud this morning...but we had a very mild morning so I'm chalking it up to temperature more than anything else. I could still hear the whine in the background but it didn't seem to have the pronounced pulsing noise that it does most of the time. I have noticed a decrease in the volume following oil changes in the past, but it comes back pretty quickly.

Took mine in for the same noise. They said it was normal and it's the air pump.....

Same here... I have 45,000 on mine and it occasionally makes the same noise at a very cold startup (like 20F or lower). I think "normal" is the wrong word to describe it... but I don't think malignant is the way to describe it either. I think dealers are telling you it's "normal" because it's not going to blow your truck up before the frame rots out so they just want you to go away.

I have the same noise on my 2015. Truck is at ~2300 miles now. Will wait until the first oil change for dealer to check it out.

Toyota should just put 1st gens back in the line of production and Tacoma will get its name back for being a quality pickup again..

Mine ticks like a sob I can hear it when by interstate barrier. But it definitely doesn't make that noise.

That's terrible, sounds like another case of piston slap. Google it, plenty of complaints. Demand a New engine. Toyota generally tries to weasel out of this and say normal. Bitch loud. Nice quality, shame on Toyota!

Only in America can you get away with screwing a customer on a $30,000 purchase WITH A WARRANTY and then get sued into 3rd world poverty for hurting someone's feelings... Old and grumpy, I am going to get off my soap box and take a nap...

Dog friendly, with dog snot on inside windows, with of course a/c! Mag 16 inch wheels from a Mazda.
If you haven't already, you should contact Toyota Mains office about your issue. It's funny that first they say it's normal ignoring you. Then call you, saying they're starting to see a lot of this!

Saw a few posts reference knocking, to be clear we are talking about the "whine" or "baby goat" sound right ?

Sent in sample to blackstone labs today, will post results as soon as i get them.

also a guy on my street has a pre 2012 Tacoma and i could hear the whine when he started up this morning.

Mine doesn't wine or chirp or squeal, mine actually has a knock in it sounds like a minor rod knock. Only last until its warm then you can't hear it anymore.
