I've not driven with them folded out yet. That's one of the features I like, when not using the cross bars, they can be swiveled back and latched onto the side rails.

There is no noise when folded back into the side rails.

I'm new here, sorry if I break any site rules (belong to someother sites who are very particular about their rules..HK PRO)...but, I just ordered a new 2016 Tacoma Off-Road Double Cab 4x4 and wonder if the earlier year OEM ROOF RACK will fit the 2016 truck...

Was easy. Just pull off the black strips that cover the channel. Comes off in two sections, the back piece is about 8 -10 inches and the front piece is 3 - 4 feet. Easy to start removal at the seam between the two pieces.

In the channel where the strip was, there will be 3 pieces of foam tape that have been painted over. Under the tape is where the mounting holes are located. Don't pull up the tape, but use something to poke a hole and remove the tape around the holes.

After that it's just bolting on a bracket and the rack to the roof.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the 2016 is different. The rack description was for the 2016 and not 20xx-2016.

The rack for the 2016 should be the same as a 05-15 as the cab is the same.
