I just upgraded from an '08 4x2 4 cyl. to a '10 4x4 DC about 2 weeks ago. Today was the first hand-wash I gave her and I noticed a nickel size bubble/spider-web crack in the middle of my roof. Needless to say I got pretty pissed. I am going to bring it back to the dealer today and see what they say. Has anyone else out there seen this on their new truck? Any advice/suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Weathertechs, personally fabricated tailgate lock, tint, extra D rings, Exactfit seatcovers, re-enforcing the tailgate and adding a leaf next week.
This makes me wonder if this is the original paint. Doesn't sound like it...

Theres been a couple threads on this, what happens is cars get damaged while they are being towed/delivered, the dealerships then go ahead and may (or may not) pay a third party to take care of the damages, therefore the quality of the work may be iffy :-\

Bird sh1t maybe? I have 2 spots that had bird sh1t on them for a while and marked the paint underneath.

If the paint is damaged and repaired on a NEW vehicle the dealer MUST disclose this to the seller before you buy it. They can be required to replace the vehicle if they did not disclose the damage before you bought it.

This came out of a lawsuit against BMW for not disclosing transportation damages. It happened to me with a Dodge pickup and the dealership immediately offered up to replace the truck.

Sorry that it took so long to get a few pics posted:

I went and talked to the dealer last week about this. At first they weren't going to fix it since it didn't look like the typical "mushroom" affect that happens due to a poor factory paint job. There was no dent on the roof so nothing had hit that spot and they decided just to fix it for me. The truck is currently in the shop getting fixed and I hope to have her back in the next day or so.

Looks just the same as the marks on my truck, caused by bird sh1t.

The only thing that I wonder is that on my last Tacoma I got bird crap on it a bunch of times just because of where I had to park it. I would wash it off within a day or two but I never had spots where the paint cracked. I guess this bird could have just ate some really bad food . . .

The bird got into the Taco Bell hot sause just before he perched in the tree above the truck...
I have a 2010 DC haven't noticed anything like that yet, but I'll keep a closer eye on it now that it's been pointed out.

My saleslady started to get a little huffy when I took so much time looking closely at the paint on my '09. I told her that Toyota's paint reputation had been going downhill and she went off about Toyota's quality.

I did not find anything on the truck I bought but was able to show her defects in the paint on two other trucks. She was much quieter after that.

the truck I originally ordered was damaged during transport...according to my sales guy it was a $400 scratch on the bumper...but in the state of Iowa, apparently dealers aren't allowed to sell a vehicle damaged in transit so it has to be sent back to Toyota and a new unit sent...when I got my truck I did the walk around and didn't find anything but the usual small things...but when I claybarred the hood, it removed some of the cover ups that they used. Nothign major like above.

That isn't birdshit remnants. Not on a new truck. It takes years for birshit to affect paint. That is improper prep work at the factory. I would be all in somebody's rear end at Toyota right now.
