Did you even read the Car and Driver comparison? "The quality of the switches and surfaces seems cheap compared with the Toyota's". You might actually do your homework before speaking as if you have. Not only did I look, but I test drove a Canyon SLT... twice... before I decided on the Tacoma. Have you looked at a Tacoma Limited interior? Clearly not. The quality, fit and finish were the main reasons I decided on Tacoma.

And lost money on damn near everyone they sold in it's last generation. That's about the time the bean-counters really started sucking the soul out of the company. In the early to mid '90's they began shifting resources away from things like Supras, Celicas and supercarged Previas, etc., etc...to hybrid technology. Hoping that Mr. Toyoda will eventually let some "soul" back into the company. He seems to be trying. It's always about making money...that why companies exists...but you have to have things that make the heart flutter too. Passion is important.

You're right. For Toyota, It's all about bringing as much profit back to Japan as possible. When updating your products, Do as little as you can get away with, spend a lot on marketing and make sure your home market stays as closed as possible to imports. It's a good strategy for Japanese investors, certainly is one of the more profitable auto stocks.

It's not going to be soon. Toyota sells tons of cars and trucks for one main reason only...the best QDR in the business.
There is a reason why you can spent $30k for a Kubota and still have to go outside and turn the heater on with a valve. It's the same for Toyota on a different level. QDR costs more money then staying up with the Jone's and adding all the glitz that GM and others often do. That's why Audi stays out of the truck business in the USA.

Predicted reliability is much worse than average; no shock to me. GM/ China motors latest advice for older cars catching fire is "Don't park it in the garage" until they figure it out. I kid you not.

“because drops of oil may be deposited on the hot exhaust manifold through hard braking, which can cause engine compartment fires.”

The recall covers cars with 3.8-liter V-6 3800 engines. There have been four recalls for the problem since 2008. All vehicles fixed earlier will need to be repaired again once GM has a new fix.

Yep. that's a bullet proof engine, they last a long time. I wish Toyota would recall my 2004 Corolla and fix my oil leak.

I"ve only seen a few Colorado/Canyons since the redesign. They really have that steeply raked look downwards to the front. Less about the suspension or front air dam, more how the lines of the truck and very high height of the box give this look of a wedge going down the street.

Compared to what? Check out the Taco gen 2 thread and the piston slap issues that Toyota doesn't want to fix. Maybe the engine doesn't blow, but who wants a 40K truck that sounds like a junker when it's brand new? I guess you could say you have a diesel...

It may be an issue in some crowds but in CR reliability data, it doesn't appear enough to put a dent n their overall reliability and motor as well.

Since the Coloroda/canyon has come out in 2015, Tacoma sales were up 19% from the previous year. That is all that needs to be said. Chevy can pay for all the "accolades" they want.
