Gotta wait for rain! Maybe Holy Jim in OC or Silverado Canyon would get muddy. Hope you have a 4x4 buddy though. Or at least a locker and a winch.

Also, OP, I would HIGHLY HIGHLY suggest if you plan on mudding in a prerunner, you go get you some good all terrains or mud terrains. What are those, revo's? Street tires? You will sink immediately and make a 4x4 pull you out lol. Personal experience, bro lol.I just upgraded to a 4x4 after 3 years in a suped up prerunner. And even I had issues in mud on occasion. Full throttle is basically your best friend, hand in hand with momentum. The minute you stop, god forbid you're on an incline, you basically have to roll all the fuck back down the hill and get a better start up it.

Yeah i dont have all terrain tires on currently, so it sounds like i should do that first. DANG! I def dont wanna get stuck out there. i was looking for a 4x4 but no luck...rolling with the PreRunner for the foreseeable future.
    thnx for the advice.

Probably looking at getting a Locker first, then upgrade suspension for bigger tires. I like Toytec lifts...any recomnedations?

An ARB locker in the back will help out alot, make you turn off traction control completely otherwise the whole truck just bogs down and won't go anywhere. Lockers can help but also kill you in mud, I kind of had to use mine off and on when I went mudding. In some places it helped to keep traction, in other places it just made me rooster tail and dig in some more. But above all, I would suggest a mild lift and some larger/wider tires with more aggressive tread. One thing I've seen done that I keep meaning to do, is get a cheap winch mounted to a tow hitch. that way you can just toss it on to your tow hitch if you're super stuck and pull yourself out of whatever hole you are in.

Unless your TRD OR stickers are fake you already have a locker. Left of steering wheel RR diff lock.

Ooops! Good call, for some reason my brain saw TRD Sport. Yea, you should have a Diff lock already! Now you just need tires!

if you want to have some adrenaline pumping fun in that prerunner, skip the cosmetic lifts and throw on some coilovers, dirt tires, and hit up the desert... when it's rainy season out there, you can have your mix of mud, small flash flood rivers, and some gnarly oh shit ass puckering moments at speed...

sounds like you got lucky they didn't check... we have seen reports over the years where they checked at the gate and turned folks away... next weekend is going to be packed after this week's coming storms...

I think you are correct and I got lucky but so did others before and after me. I found this pdf The San Gabriel Canyon Off-Highway Vehicle Area which has the following. I may have to call them next weekend.

"All vehicles must be currently registered: green or red stickers (seasonally) for off-highway vehicles; regular state registration is required for street-legal 4 wheel drive vehicles. "
