Recently got an upgrade on my suspension and it's starting to squeak. Believe it is coming from my leaf springs. Does anyone have the OME Dakar Leaf springs on their Taco and if so do they squeak? What's the fix? Thanks!!

I have them too- no squeak. I hear a lot of fixes to installing anti-squeak pads (or the DIY version), greasing the contact pads, to just dealing with it. Take your pick. It would piss me off if I just put in new suspension and already had a squeak.

Thanks. Any suggestions on what to use to grease them?

If you have Dakars, it is inevitable, they are going to squeak. All leaf springs will do it unless steps are taken to isolate the leaves. You can spray them with a dry lube like dry moly lube, or dry PTFE spray. I would avoid a wet lubricant, like oil.

I got a few months out of my Dakar before the squeak. It's usually the top main spring vibrating against the second leaf down.

You can spray with with a dry lube which will work for a while, but it will come back. Mechanical isolation is IMO, the only way for a permanent solution.

    Something like this:

I can't find the Dakar leaf spring mega thread or I'd link it here.

Zip ties. It's on his build thread somewhere, but he basically used the zip ties as the leaf spring pad. Been on there for some time, I believe.

Hey thanks! But the credit for the zip ties mod goes to @Cape Codder. I copied him. He posted it first in the Giant Dakar squeak thread with some rather amusing commentary about the dangers of sharp zip ties!

I think that's his picture above too. I google searched and posted it to help the OP.

You could also try putting a section of an old bike tube in between the leaves that are squeaking. Just did this for mine and the squeak is gone. I can not however tell you if it holds up or not but I don't see why it wouldn't. Just another way of isolating the leaves.

I dont have Dakars, but my leaf packs started squeaking at the keepers. Try loosening these off a bit. I had to place strips of rubber between the leafs and the keeper to stop mine.

Thanks guys, think I'll try the zip ties and see if that helps first! :D

    I know, I'm late. Haven't been around.
Good lookin' rig ya got there.
Use the thick black ones, they're (or should be) Ultraviolet resistant.
White ones will get brittle and break.
Put mine on about a year ago, they haven't moved or worn, that I can see.
So far, a good fix, still no squeeks.
Install is easy, cinch 'em tight and TWIST OFF THE EXCESS :D (Unlike in the pic)
