Well, unless you buy a house. Property taxes on a $300K home are about $4000 a year, or about $330 a month. That seems crazy to me.

I'd consider eagle river too, that's where my last place was before I left. The summer commute wasn't bad but it did blow in the winter if there was an accident. South anc would put you closer to work and for salmon runs down south. I believe it's pretty spendy though.

There are some nice places in Eagle River. It's on the list for sure.

I vote for the motorcycle, I ride mine year round. I leave it in the barn when it's subzero, mostly because it won't start without a shot of ether when it's that cold. The cruisers are a great option, and I really enjoy my FJ80. They are some solid machines and you would be hard pressed to find a more capable winter vehicle, my 80 is almost magical on slick roads.

Dude there is nothing more fun than a set of Trelleborg's and an iced over lake...

The motorcycle would be the cheapest option, if I was able to find an old 40 then I would want to restore it.

I'm more of a ktm/yamaha kinda guy. Bought then new '15 ktm 500exc this past spring but it was stolen in july. And since I'm in the military I'm legally only allowed to ride bikes during the "approved riding season"

I have a KTM 990 adventure myself, love the exc though. Ya riding in the military always has some unique challenges. I always loved the mandatory inspections, usually on a Saturday afternoon and since I had a dual sport I had to take the offroad and street courses. Great fun!

I was thinking about getting another 500 or maybe the 350 exc . Wouldn't mind taking a look at the 690 Enduro though. Nice looking bike.

Can't wait to get back for winter break so I can finally finish getting my bike back together. And then sell it

@username If you make 91k you should be fine up here. Housing isn't the cheapest, but it is worth it. Also, you will get the PFD after a year of living up here (at least while we still have it) which helps offset the crazy property taxes. I'd recommend the move, I think you'd love it up here.

Btw, I love your build. Awesome truck that served as partial motivation for mine.

Thanks man. I built my truck without a shop 30 miles south of Death Valley in the Mojave desert with a battery powered welder and cordless tools... On a soldiers budget while living in an RV. I know how to make it on nothing, but I don't know how to live in a city, lol. Just worried I'll get in over my head I guess.

Just find a place with a garage and parking and it sounds like you'll be fine. The scenery up here is great, I wish I had more time (and money) to explore.

Me too. My current position requires a lot of on call times where I have to be in cell phone range (not in the woods), but the new job would allow a little more freedom. We'll see how it works out...the logistics of moving all of my gun stuff is a concern as well. Can't drive the Alcan with my toys, and can't trust the movers with my safe. Might have to take the ferry.

Thats what we did when we moved permanently. Filled the truck with our stuff, drove it to seattle and put it on the ferry and then we flew up and met it
