Oil pan punctured

So last Monday I took my taco in for an oil leak. They recognized it as a timer cover leak and proceeded to fix it. I get a call today saying they resealed the timing cover and it is still leaking, and they located the leak at a small puncture in the front of the oil pan, really close to the steering rack. There is a small plug there that connects the power steering fluid with the rack and right above that plug was a small puncture. Apparently I landed my truck really hard, probably in Pismo, and it caused either my engine to slam down really hard into that plug, or my suspension bumper up really hard into my oil pan. Either way, the pan is busted, and they will have to replace it. The cost total for parts and labor is $1119.00. What do you guys think?:

Should I just purchase the oil pan from them and take it somewhere else?

Thanks a lot! It believe its the $48 w/o x-runner pan, i called them, they said to call tomorrow as they research the price, and that they will price match!

 

$850 for labor?!?!?!?! That is $141 per hour for labor. That sounds crazy high. If you can hold out a few days I would order the parts online and while your waiting make some calls to shops in your area or do it your self.

 

thats bullshit, you can do this yourself. over a grand is a damn rip.

 

^ i was thinking. I'll have to remove the front diff which is gonna be a bitch. I'll probably find a shop to do it way cheap...i know a shop that hooks it up too.

 

do you guys think I would need to drain my diff since my diff is already plugged because I dont have cv shafts right now - they are being modded. All I would have to do is disconnect the front drive shaft right?

 

^ thanks, I have front cvs chopped in half and plugged into the diff and wheels to protect the wheel bearings.

 

^ nice! also, i wouldnt ask this if my truck were here with me (still at the stealership), but will I also have to remove the steering rack? or will the pan slip into place from behind it?

 

^ for sure, you've been so much help, +1 rep. didnt u have a rear main seal fail on you? how did that turn out? I already initialed the work order at the stealership but im pretty sure they wont hold it against me.

I'm still waiting for those damn custom shafts. The replacement shafts I bought are already making all sorts of noise.

 

Hmm. I remember seeing an entire repair manual with all the factory procedures for everything online at one time. I'll try and dig it up.
