I smacked a deer on I-64 in IL back in May. I was literally 3 miles from my exit off the interstate after driving from Charlotte, NC to southern IL. What luck. I was going about 68 and had no chance to miss it, I didn't even know what I hit until I stopped and looked. It didn't really do any damage to my truck though, it hit square in the middle of the grill and just popped the bottom light out and cracked the plastic piece under the grill. I got really lucky! The deer? Not so much:

Yeah, that's a hind quarter by itself and a rib that was about 20 feet from the rest of the pile o'deer. I'm sure you can imagine the deer smell that saturated the air. The next day I looked at my truck a little closer and saw deer hair on my tailgate. That thing powder puffed when I hit it!

We will see tomorrow what the total damage is. I was adding up parts and its gonna be close to $1,000 in parts and I have a $1,000 deductible so whichever is cheaper is the route I will take. I can pretty much fix it myself, I just need a color matched fender, bumper cover, and grille. After looking at the damage its all cosmetic damage.

One of the reasons I mounted the Avid Off-Road bar: protection. The middle underside isn't that protected, but I picked up the additional front skid plate accessory and will mount it soon. See my post on "skid plate enhancement."

The accessory front skid plate (see in the Tacoma brochure and Toyota website) isn't as thin as some have led me to believe. It should offer a reasonable amount of protection--but not in a battle with a boulder.

I'm removing that "skid plate enhancement" as soon as I get the chance...maybe tonight.

Front tires are fine. Its just the light in the pic. They still have a decent amount of tread left. Lol its been the rainy season here in GA the last few months. We just had a 500 year flood about a month ago. we are supposed to get 2.5 inches of rain tomorrow. The tires do fine in the rain.

Tis the season. I keep my eyes peeled and hands braced on the wheel for my 20 minute FM/CR drive to work every day in NE TX. Deer a'plenty round here.

Was talking to my sister on her cell last year about this time, she lives outside Pittsburg, PA (Valencia), and she said , OMG there's a deer running along side my truck! It's so pretty! Next thing I hear is BAM and my sis saying, CRAP, it just turned right and ran right in front of me! :D

Thankfully she was okay, just busted up the grill on her Silverado.

    Deer be sto0pid! Must kill!

so I think it will buff out...

not really...but I fixed it a little. At least so my headlights were pointed straight. :D

A little muscle and some clear packaging tape :D should hold her together until I get her fixed.

will the Avid bull bar hold up under a deer impact? I'm thinking of getting one of those, if nothing more than for the looks, lol
