This is not production. We've seen this years ago. I am sure at some point Toyota stuffed a diesel in the Tacoma too.

Probably going to get bashed for saying this, but where is the market for a midsize diesel pickup? I'm completely for diesel input because it opens the market for competition. I realize that diesel provides some torque and MPG gains, but what are the major capabilities? Sure extra miles to the gallon are nice, but I could buy a lot of gas for $5k. To those who say towing, wouldn't it be worth the upgrade to full size at that point?

Yeah I'm just not seeing an overall benefit in purchasing a midsize diesel when I could spend another 5-10k to go full size. If I wanted a diesel for towing, I doubt I would even look at midsize models due to their restricted capabilities. The lack of interior space would haunt many, especially if used as a work truck. I would also be afraid of power train if I was placing a lot of stress on it. We know for a fact that midsize's don't have beefy setups compared to a full size.

I see your logic, but for me its more about having the ability to tune the turbo for performance advantages than anything else... I've heard of some asinine torque gains from some of the Ram guys that have the new EcoDiesel. Not sure if it's been mentioned anywhere, but I imagine the mid-sized diesel would be somewhat attractive for European markets...

I would be very happy if they made a 4x4 diesel with a manual transmission. :woot:

Well you have to think of it this way. Look at how many Tacoma's that are out there on the roads, but aren't on this forum. It's quite a numerous amount. Car enthusiast are open to many different options, but the average consumer is usually narrow minded. Toyota is selling Tacomas at a rapid rate without a diesel option, so they're going to continue their "plan".

The God Damn article starts out "New 2017 Nissan Frontier is not expected before 2017." Well really, do you think? I thought they would put it out in 2016.

Here is a more legitimate website for you to peruse, yes it is real.

Yeah, I'm on the same page... I'm sure I would be in the minority, but I'd definitely consider buying the diesel. I just wanted to use the word "boners" in an equation, really.
