I'd love for all offroad bumper fabricators to advertise approach or departure angle gained (or lost) with their designs.
It seems to me one of the major reason people buy HD steel offroad bumpers (outside of armor which they all provide a benefit).

To that end, I never understood while the TRD "Offroad" Tacoma has the same plastic bumper covers from the factory as all the other models.
How hard could it be to have a separate design for the offroad model bumper covers that increases approach/ departure angles? Answer, not real hard.

If Toyota did this, people wouldn't necessarily feel the need to armor their bumpers if they were't prone to dragging offroad as much... It would also be keeping in line with what the customers want that buy this particular model (improved A/D angles, ground clearance, large wheel wells, heck while you're at it toss some true offroad fender flares on there that don't impede full articulation or fast paced desert running) for "offroad" purpose.

It's not unprecedented either... the 4Runner has two different bumper covers between the limited model and the rest of the models... so Toyota has done this for mall crawlers at least :)

Would be nice if they offered a factory option bullbar, like they do on the HiLux.

Those look super sweet, agreed. I bet cafe standards (mpg) and the EPA are two reasons why an optional factory bullbar may not be available. It would likely affect fuel consumption numbers... so yeah, blame the government.

Wonder if they could do a dealer installed bumper, like AEV on the Rams. There is a Ram dealer just down the road from me that has a few AEV Jeeps and trucks on the lot.

I like it...always like ARB bull bars. This one looks like there is going to be some fender cutting involved in addition to trimming the fender flares.

I knew it wouldn't be long before the had one out. Now, if someone is lucky enough they may be able to pick up the rig from ARB in a few years. When I picked up my 4Runner and they were prototyping on the 5th gen's to put their 2009 4Runner up for sale. $29k was the asking price for a SR5 that had the bar, front and rear lockers, compressor, lift, roof rack and IPF lights.

Unfortunately, I can draw a reasonable link between the EPA and bullbars, but that might be a serious derail of the thread. As a quick side note, the tonneau cover on my 3rd gen is reasonably linked to the EPA as well... :)

How does a bumper like that affect airbag deployment?

    doesn't
at least not ARB. They design them so they still work with airbags.

And that's why there are no recovery points on the arb bumper. It may set off the air bag.

I'm curious how long before people start posting/making better recovery points for the new tacoma.

Man that bumper is set AF but I can't justify that kind of money on a bumper that I would be too scared to damage

it will save you from other damage if you hit a deer or something, and it will help you with a recovery with the winch.

But yes they are rather steep of a price tag. Hard to justify but at least where I am most other armor similar to it will be roughly the same price. Its not much more.
