I went up 6520 and 6522 off Beckler. This was near the top of 6522 before I came to a gate. Wanted to keep going.image.jpg

Ahh that gate is still closed.. Just passed that goes to the top of the mountain with a 365 degree view and one of the best camp spots I've ever found. I'll see if I can find some pics of it at halftime

A couple of us were talking today at work... We want to much snow that they have to bring in the big snowblowers from the midwest to keep the Stampede and Stevens open.

I wanna go snow wheeling something fierce.

This is a random request, but anyone around the Enumclaw or Bellevue area have the Icon stage 2 or similar suspension setup? I live in Enumclaw but work in Bellevue most of the week. I would love to go for a ride in your truck to see how it feels before pulling the trigger on a new suspension. I can pay for gas and lunch or whatever. I know this sounds wrong for a performance suspension but I want to see how they ride on road since I put a ton of street miles on my truck commuting for work. I'm about 90% on road and 10% off road on forest service roads.

I currently have had the Bilstein 5100 shocks front and rear for a couple of years and I really just don't like the way my truck rides... The truck bottoms out on bigger potholes and the rear end kicks up hard like you're on a pogo stick or something. From reading around on this forum it sounds like it's because the Bilsteins don't have enough rebound dampening. Anyways, I'm considering the Icons based on all the positive reviews but it's hard to drop $2,000 on a suspension setup without knowing whether or not I'll like it. I would also most likely get the Icons revalved for softer compression since I spend so much time in my truck commuting.

They will ride good. I promise you that. Icon is for street trucks... it will be awesome. I personally would never run digressive valving but that's just me. It will feel way more controlled and softer over the bumps

I don't drive a newer Tacoma, but you can feel free to drive my 4Runner if you'd like to see how a digressive valving feels on the street. We can even adjust it to the softest and hardest settings so you can feel both ends of the spectrum.

@bobsuruncle has Icon coilovers and his truck is probably closer to what you're looking for. @Greddy has what I think is actually the stage 2 setup.

Please educate me on how digressive valving is for a street truck. If your argument is, "bilsteins are for street trucks and they're digressive", then just go ahead and slap yourself.

If you meant to say, "Icon is probably not the best decision for rock crawling" I'll agree and move on.

In fact, if he's mostly using his truck for commuting, on the street, I would be inclined to recommend a King setup. That nice slow piston speed will be much more more comfortable around town for sure. Unless he's hitting washboards on the freeway, that'll probably be more comfortable as well.

I've got the normal icons with 650# coils and sway bar removed. You're welcome to check them out and give them a ride. Weekends work best for me, except this coming weekend, ill be down on the cowlitz. I do have some front end issues at the moment (worn out cv's and bushings) which may or may not affect your decision.

I read somewhere that icon puts 650lb coils on normally instead of 600's.. Not sure if that's true or not but if so that could help his decision whether to go with icon or not.

But yes icon will be a huge ride difference over stock. Icon, King, fox or ADS are all good

That may be true. The previous owner didn't mention anything to me about swapping coils, nor did I see them listed on the invoice he gave me for the CO's. I realized they were 650# when I googled the part number written on the coils.

Oh okay got it, thanks guys. Another thing to think about is Icon puts 13" coils on where as King puts 14" coils on so you will need an inch more preload from the icon's to get the same lift as you would with Kings. Not a problem but just some more info.. I'd say valving is more of a factor than the coil length though, sounds like you would do better with Icons

I thought this too, and almost bought some 14" 650lb coils last week before someone set me straight.

A 650lb coil is a 650lb coil. A totally hypothetical situation for an example... To get 2" of lift from a 14" 650lb spring you'll preload it 1". To get 2" of lift from a 13" 650lb spring you'll preload it 1". The only difference is the point on the thread body at which the preload will begin.

A 14" coil does indeed look better, as it'll have less thread showing, but you'll effectively preload it the exact same amount, to get the same amount of lift.

Oh I see what you mean. But say you have 2 trucks, one with 13" coils and one with 14" coils and both are set to 0 preload.. You will have a higher ride height on the truck with a 14" coil since its an inch longer, right? So then to get to the same ride height the truck with 13" coils would have to preload some to get to where the other truck is at.. At least thats how my mind is thinking right now

If there's no preload, shouldn't both be at the same height?
