That does help when you close the doors but the main reason is the lack of old time vent windows incoming air from the HVAC has to go some where or there would be no air flow the vents in the cab have been there for decades.

I listened to this, but hear nothing that sounds unusual outside of ordinary driving sounds. I am wondering if the quieter cab is just letting people hear stuff that would normally be drowned out. There is always going to be noise on vehicles, it is just a cat-and-mouse game of damping what speeds and where it comes from. I am not saying it's 'nothing', but that sound file doesn't alarm me.

I heard wind today on mine at about 51-55 mph, but I honestly wouldn't have thought a second about it if not for these threads. I consider it 'normal'. Again, I'm not saying you all are nuts, just that some of these cases may be a product of looking too hard mixed with a couple of real issues.

Actually you do need them..in fact every vehicle has them to ease door closing and when turning your AC or heater on to pass air thru the cabin. If you didn't have those vents your window seals would burst or your ear drums. Your statement is completely false and your sentence sounds like something you wish your chick was :D

Well, I pulled the rear stuff out and got to see and examine the vents...everything operational, and not sticking or stuck open.!! I guess I'm just stuck with a truck that is noisier than my 2006 was.... (it only 1 vent on it by the way)... I guess Toyota feels 2 are better than 1, eh..??

Someone did say they ruled out the Firestone Tires, so I'm at a loss as to what the cause is, other than just a noisy truck....!!

Is there a difference in noise with mud guards vs mud flaps?

some and more and more and more and
If your 16 is noisier than your 06, I would take that truck back and tell them I want another one for sure. I'm going to put an exhaust on when there available because I'm afraid of falling asleep in mine now because its so quit.

I have a 2016 TRD Sport double cab. The first 2 weeks I had it, was super quiet. After 2 weeks I started to notice wind/road noise coming from rear seat area. I checked the seals on the doors and they look ok. Wondering if it might be the vents or something else. If someone has gotten a fix for this, let me know.

I've had my DCSB Sport for almost two weeks and just started doing more freeway driving this week. I noticed a lot more noise from the driver side rear door area as well. Is there a way to check where mine was made?

YES..!! Without a doubt the 16 is worse... I drove another 16..same noise level....!! There are 2 vents on the rear cab on the 16's and my '06 had 1... Why do we need more holes in the cab..??

Does the 16's HVAC system move more air....maybe... I don't know..

All I know is the 16 is noisy............... I'll turn up the XM radio till the free trial expires... Channel 058 anyone..??

Mine is made in Texas. Same noise which appears to me to be originating on the drivers side front area.
If it is a vent issue would this not be eliminated with window or windows down? Mine continues and seems to be louder with drivers window down.

Safe to say we could eliminate:

    1. Factory it was made in - reports of both Mex and Tex.
    2. Hood type - flat or scoop
    3. Tire make - reports of all 3
    4. Front airdam - with or wo same
    5. Can config - both DC and AC same noise
    6. 4x4 or 4x2 same which we could also eliminate transfer case and rear driveshaft. The shafts would be different between 4x4 and 4x2?

    All have mudflaps?
    Possible front cowl noise?

Plug one vent and see if it reduces the noise?

Anyone hearing the noise have a MT? The driveshaft design is slightly different on those. Just Curious.

Maybe you guys have already seen this...

Mike Sweers talks briefly about why there are now 2 "quarter vents".

    Start at 6:25 on video.

    https://youtu.be/FutBBbglZvo

I'd like to know what magic they played to improve these vents. How are they different from the quarter vent on 2nd gen tacomas?

I'm not sure if I hear the same noise or not. Probably is. I hear a noise when I drive in the city, without the Jbl on. It's like a wind noise, not a rushing, or air leak noise though. First impression was that it was the left outside mirror, but rolling the window down and moving my hand all round the mirror and the fin, didn't change anything. Sounds like it is to my front left.

We have had very strong winds here, so hoping for no or calm winds to see if it makes a difference. Overall, the cab is quiet and if I have the Jbl on, I don't hear it. Will continue to focus on it.
