They sound cool...it sounds cool to say you have an intake too...but its a waste. They always say better MPG, I had intake systems on 2 of my 3 past vehicles (one AEM, one K&N) and saw no difference. I got more engine noise and thats all. No MPG, no measurable gains and definitely no noticeable SOTP gains either.

Back in the day, I worked for HRC....a division of American Honda. Our project was to develop Honda 4-stroke dirt bikes. Most of my time was spent thrashing XR600's and CR250's (for the chassis development) Something that I was taught by the guys in the engineering department was this; A naturally aspirated engine will only draw so much air on it's own. Superchargers and turbo's FORCE in more air. With that, you need a corresponding volume of fuel. In the vast majority of 4-stroke engines, the intake runners and valves are the choke point on funneling air into the cylinder. Long story short, NO air filter is going to boost power unless the stock filter/air intake is inadequate to begin with. The ONLY way "more air" provides any advantage is with MORE FUEL.... Now, any worthwhile engineering dept will design and build an intake system that is MORE than adequate. Usually an OEM intake is capable of passing more than 100% of required air to enter the engine WITH FILTER CLOGGED TO 30% to 50% of it's capacity to flow air.....Long story short, the stock air intake on a Tacoma is MORE than adequate for the STOCK engine to perform at it's maximum capability even at the end of the filters service cycle. You will NOT get a gain in HP or fuel economy with just an aftermarket air filter. Ain't happenin'.....

The stock air induction system on a Tacoma is NOT inadequate. It works quite well in fact.

Too many people think NOISE = HP. Not happenin'.....
