Since this past Sunday was so nice out, I installed my CB radio. Installation was actually pretty easy. Haven't gotten a hold of a SWR meter yet to calibrate but hope to get to it by Friday.

 

Looks good. I'm not sure but you may need to add a ground wire to ground the mount to the frame

 

You think the stake hole mount won't be a good enough ground? I sanded under the mount.

 

Might be. It's attached to metal but with all the composite on the bed I don't know if that metal is grounded.

 

Gotcha, so where might you suggest i ground it to? (The cab or frame?)

Any suggestions on which channel most are hanging out on?

 

I used washable markers so I can change the colors.

And idk if all the trucks are the same but I've grounded lights to the bed rails before and it worked fine just a fyi

 

Frame for sure. Truckers use 9or 19

 

Is there a good spot on the frame where I can attach a ground wire? They say the ground wire should be as short as possible.

 

I attach mine to the gas nozzle right under the filler neck

 

Ok, I'll have to check that out later and see if will help boost signal. Hoping to borrow a SWR meter tomorrow so we'll see how it goes. I would imagine that adding an extra ground won't hurt?

What kind of range do you get?

 

I don't know how far my range is but it's enough for communicating with the group while offroad. It's pretty much useless on road these days unless you like hearing random trucker banter.

And for where to ground to, just find the closest bolt or bracket that can be loosened and attach a ring terminal to your wire and bolt it on.

That's kind of why I like my set up. I can put everything away including the antenna. The only time I use it is when I go off road. I also ran a ground from the bracket to a bolt on the frame with another ground to it right above the left rear tire.

 

One of these days I'll finally get the CB set up correct... Every time I try I half-ass it & it never works right.

 

I like having my antenna always out I always recognize fellow wheelers when I see jeeps equipped with some vs mall crawlers. Mine isn't even tuned and I generally have no issues as long as the antenna isn't shorting somewhere.
