I find my 2.7L stick gets great mpg. As noted, the pre-runner is rated same as any 5-lug which was always BS.

Should have bought a 5-lug stick.

Sorry I'm late to hop on here, I have a 2015 2.7L Prerunner DCSB. Before looking at these numbers know a few things:
    1. I live in a very rural, flat area, though I do make trips to Pennsylvania and Western MD every once and a while and still get decent mileage
    2. Before this vehicle I generally averaged more than the advertised highway MPG,
. My last vehicle 2014 Subaru Forester 2.5/6mt was rated 22 city 29 hwy, I average 31 for the year I owned it.
. 2013 Fusion 1.6/6mt rated 37HWY, averaged 36 but it wasn't broken in and had issues, Ford bought it back at 4,000 miles
    . 2010 Chrysler 300 3.5 4auto, rated 25hwy, never did worse than 26, usually 28
    . 2008 Saturn Astra 1.8 5spd, rated 32hwy, generally 33-35
    . 2003 Buick Century 3.1 4auto, rated 20c 29hwy, usually 31-34
    3. This means I should be able to get 25-26 out of this one yet I'm getting 23 and I'm trying harder than with my last few cars.
    4. I generally drive only a 3-5 over, and am good about reading the traffic ahead and coasting to stops.
    5. Prerunner is rated the same as 5lug, I'm sure I would beat 24 on a 5lug

My 2.7l 4cyl regular cab got 21.6 mpg (by my calibrated ultra gauge) on a recent trip across the mountains in Washington. I treated the speed limit as a suggestion. I have load range e Cooper tires. I keep thinking someday I'll try a trip at conservative speeds and see what it can do.

My previous was a '98 Dakota with a stick and v-6. Always loved a stick. Couldn't get one in a double cab with the 4 cylinder.

So from all the great input my theory is this: the 19-24 is a generic figure for the 4 banger. The heavier DC with a dated tranny and higher ground clearance won't reach those numbers. Thanks folks. This is a great place for answers ideas and conversation!

I had a double can prerunner with a 4 cylinder.
I averaged 16 mph driving like an old lady.
    I got a v6 and average 17-18.5 now.

I can get 27 MPG pretty consistently if I kept my speeds down, turn off AC, and stick with mostly highway.

Would you be willing to put your money where you mouth is? Mine rarely gets below 25 mpg in everyday driving in mountain, town and highway driving.

I have a 2.7 but with the 5spd manual trans. I consistently get an avg of 20-22 mixed, 24-25 @ 100km/hr and 18 city, and I dont drive light. I can get better if I hypermill but stick is to much fun :)
On a tank I at least always get 800km and close to 900-1000 on hwy.

Just curious, do you leave your fan environment on defrost? If so both defrost modes use the a/c.

Ya I will. I drive a v6 and don't give a fuck about mpg bc I can afford my vehicle and the gas.

    On my 2010 2.7 4x4 5spd AC, I got 24-25. I'm getting @22 on my 2015 2.7 4x4 AC with AT, running 265x75x16 Coopers A/T3s...

Your original post called me a liar--that's why I challenged you. I also can afford my vehicle and the gas, but I choose to be more frugal than some others. If you think I am lying about my gas mileage, come on down to Arizona and take a drive with me.

Sorry if I gave the wrong impression. I was merely saying I can prove my mpg claims. I tend to treat people face-to-face the same way I do online and, probably naively, expect the same in return. The post calling folks liars raised my hackles.

Slow down a bit and quit racing!!!
Seriously, the mpg figures are at 80 kph = 50 mph.

And get rid of that bed cover. If you don't do it just right, it will make things worse. A cover that can reduce fuel consumption will start at the cab/roof and angle down to the top of the tailgate. What you've got will increase turbulence and along with it, fuel consumption. Truck bed wants a "gentle swirl", and the extra wall space on the back of the cab actually helps recover energy and pushes you forward.

    Or are Canadian.
    20% bigger gallon.
    22 x 1.2 = 26.4.

I was getting 24-25 mpg over the summer, recently dropped to about 21.5-23 mpg, perhaps due to winter blend?

    Tips:
stay with skinny stock 215 tires
bump up psi of said tires to 35-36 psi
    drive like a grandpa
