I went through this EXACT thing a week ago. Please do the following as I did. I received my car and a card for 5 full tanks of fuel from the dealership gas station as well as a certificate for $500 off any items I want to purchase from them.

Call your guy, speak with him directly and no one else. Tell him you had a deal agreed to, whether it was written or not. Sales businesses must adhere to verbal contracts, according to the Better Business Bureau. Tell your guy you are very upset, not sure if you want to buy from them anymore and intend to file a formal complaint with the BBB immediately (they have a 24 hours complaint dept). Tell him you want to speak with the manager on duty right now and tell that manager the same thing. Obviously, do not commit to going to another dealer by demanding your deposit. Now, this is not an empty threat, so don't think you are just lying right back to a liar. You can legitimately file your complaint with the BBB and they will launch a full investigation. I have done this once before with a dealership under different circumstances and the business was found to be dishonest.

I cannot emphasize enough how IN THE RIGHT you are by doing what I just described. In the Tacoma market, we do not have the upper hand. They are hard to get and dealers know this. Please do the above and put these people in check so the next mope may get a bit more honest attention. THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO WORK FOR YOU in these situations.

No kidding...I am sure the dealer made more than the $500 over "Invoice" I paid...Otherwise they would not have taken my first and last offer.

I used the Invoice prices posted here without knowing if they were real or not. But the bottomline is we were both happy with the deal and that's all that matters whether one pays MSRP+ or Invoice+. Dealers don't get the opportunity to sell many vehicles at MSRP+ so naturally they will hold the line in some areas

I never, at any point, said to get free things and I absolutely never said to try to negotiate anything. In fact, I made mention to the agreement made between the seller and buyer… with a realistic wait time. Of course you should not drive around and look for a truck, you are insinuating that I am saying the dealer should do more than keep his end of the bargain. I said to call, demand an answer (which he said he did not get), and tell them that if they will not find one and continue to "jerk" him around, then to call the BBB. I made reference to the free shit they gave me because they knew they weren't going to bat for me and calling around like they should. The BBB is one of the only organizations that will look out for the customer in these situations. If you think I'm one of those "crazies," keep in mind I financed on my own, called a dealership ahead of time and set up an appt, was on time with an offer (which was accepted without hassle), and was out of the dealer's hair within 25 minutes of my arrival. I did not need to go to finance for the above reason and was out of the dealership and awaiting arrival within 40 minutes. I am a very well informed and experienced car buyer and have never treated a dealer with anything but respect. Now, when a 40k dollar purchase doesn't arrive and you get no word on when it will, you make sure everyone you dealt with is actually going to bat for you. Don't take it personal that MAYBE, just MAYBE, two car salesmen in the entire nation weren't going to bat for a couple people because they knew they already had the sale and didn't need to waste their time. Its about customer service, not free shit…but its funny how quickly they found me an answer once i respectfully approached them with my intentions. Not only that, THEY AGREED that they had messed up. You are being stupid and picking a stupid fight. This dude just wants his shit and thats reasonable…

And don't sit tight just cause this dude tells you to. He's obviously just lazy and taking it personal for some reason.

-12% of the stated invoice price?
Or - 12‰ of the msrp?

Dealer invoice, msrp isn't that much more anymore. They sell at full msrp and that's a great deal for them. Most likely it was an easy sale also.

Dealer invoice is another sales tool for them to show you. Dealer cost and fees is a different story. Plus the more units they sell the hight percent kick back from the manufacturer they get. They hit multipliers for every x amount of units they sell as a whole. That's why some people get a better deal at the end of the month.

exactly, I am the GSM for a dealer. Folks tend to get upset when we cant give an EXACT date. They do change, especially the 16 Tacoma. If yours is a 3T(baja) plant, they get even worse trying to predict. Hang in there, it will be worth the wait. PS:I have been waiting two months for mine to get here. They changed the dates 4 times.

As a general rule, new vehicle auto dealers have a net profit margin of 1-2% on new vehicle sales.

Gross margins run between 8 and 10% for most full-line automakers, and luxury cars even more. In 1996 Toyota spread between Invoice and MSRP was around 15% Today around 6%.I have a hard time thinking dealers gave up those margins. I think they are paid now on the back end in the form of bonuses and dealer incentives and who knows what else. All I know is my dealer made more than $500 on my sale. I am okay with that because I go of invoice minus customer incentives if any,

For the folks wanting to know the TRUE COST of a vehicle, go to kbb.com or edmunds.com. They give you the actual cost and invoice for each vehicle. We are selling our $750 over invoice. Depending on the MSRP, the discount can change. Obviously, the more expensive the MSRP is, the larger the discount. Make sense?

Kind of...it doesn't count for manufacturer kick backs on units moved, dealer hold back, etc. What the dealer 'actually' pays for a vehicle is different from what the 'invoice' costs the customer sees.

Yea well my dealer is about to get his ass handed to him on a plate.

I have been told now that my truck is coming in and will be ready for pick up for a week. Was told yesterday would be able to get it today at 3pm. Guess what nothing.

Don't these guys get how much of an inconvenience it is when they tell you faulty information.

That's right they just don't give a flying uck!!!

not true, holdback is the same for every Toyota dealer. I did not bring up holdback because you wont see that on a MY16 Tacoma anyways.

Sure it's true. The hold back at 2.9% from base MSRP or whatever it is -- being the same for every dealer doesn't refute my statement. The truth is that the prices you find online are not the true cost of the vehicle to the dealer and publicly available invoice does not reflect the ACTUAL vehicle cost to the dealer. To get those numbers you need to know someone who runs a dealership and has those figures available and willing to share with you. My dad owned a Ford Dealership for years and was in the car business for 3 decades prior to that.

IMO, a deal is all the perception of the buyer and the seller. If they feel they got a great deal, I just tell them good job. That's all you can do. We are a Best Price dealership. We dont haggle on our prices. Yes, we make money. In any business, profit is the name of the game. That being said, we often times truly loose money. It just depends. I can tell you on a MY16 Taco, we make money. I just tell people to shop around until they feel they got the best deal to them. The auto business is not what it was 15 years ago. When the internet hit, margins went down. Thats why We push volume! Sell more, make less per car. Simple

Smitty, read my above statement. This isn't 1999 anymore. You absolutely can find holdback on most consumers websites. If you look at any Toyota invoice, it is cut and dry black and white. I do not know about ford or any other manufacturer, but Toyota its all there my friend.

I hear you on what you're saying.

I meant on a personal level like if you're out with the wife and talking to people. Then someone starts talking about their new car deal they got.

Last year at my girls Xmas party this came up. The guy was telling how on his bmw they only made 100$ off him because he is such a good customer. He had bought his 3rd car there. I didn't have the heart to go look up the car online and show him he got nothing less the hosed on the deal lol.
