I apologize. My writing must have lead you to mistake my post as a suggestion. It is not. It is more of a "do it now" type of post.

    2024 Tacoma (hopefully)
I suppose I'll chime in here finally. I'm in the rather unique position of having owned both a 2015 Canyon and a 2016 Tacoma. The Canyon was a fully loaded SLT with a $41,000 sticker price (I leased it). It was an amazingly good truck. It didn't feel like a GM product at all. The ride was quiet, the transmission and engine were matched perfectly, it got 24+MPG on the highway, and it drove like a car. I thought the interior was very nice and comfortable. I'm not at all surprised that the car magazines like the GM twins better. They write for the masses, and the masses want a 4 door truck with an automatic transmission and a tiny bed that drives like a car. The average buyer never takes their truck on anything worse than a dirt road. In comparison, the Tacoma seems geared more toward an audience who want a truck instead of a car with a bed. I'm not going to go so far as to say they're "apples and oranges", but they are different enough to appeal to a different group of buyers. Sure, people will compare them and choose their favorite. Toyota will probably maintain the sales lead in the segment, but GM will gain ground. There is nothing wrong with the new GM twins in my opinion. They are very nice trucks, but I personally like the Tacoma better for my lifestyle. The magazines like the twins better because they seem better suited for the average modern truck buyer who reads their articles and gives a crap about their opinion. I'm willing to bet that long term reliability will prove the Tacoma to be a better machine.

Exactly, the colorado is for people who don't want or need a truck. Look at their marketing campaign.

As opposed to Toyota's marketing campaign which features some ISIS'esque scenes with trucks driving around in a desert with jumping motorcycles and explosions....

Come on dude, I think you are a bit smarter than to fall for the marketing bullshit, regardless of what company vomits it out.

Buy a truck because it's right for you. Don't let fanboys on any end steer you a direction you might not need to go. Make your own choices and take responsibility for them.

My suggestion, blow up your TV a.la the Toyota commercial. Best thing you can do.

I wasn't aware ISIS was actually based off of Mad Max. That's what I got from the commercial and your comment.

Well considering the lackluster fuel economy numbers with the new 2016, then perhaps Mad Max is a better fit.

I hate those commercials, but you can't argue with facts. The taco is easily best in it class off-road and stock ones can go almost anywhere. Reliability and resale value are also things to consider. I'm just saying most Tacoma buyers are educated shoppers.

Educated shoppers....you would never know it listening to all the owners lifting thier trucks, putting on the biggest tire they can find, adding turbos then using them for mall runs. Tacos are the after market king of trucks for many.

I would argue that those are educated shoppers too. They know they want to mod something and pick arguably the best vehicle for modding. Some people like turning wrenches more than they like off roading. So what?

They are educated in what they want to look like. I like the look of large tires and ground clearance....just happen to need both too. But, if someone told me a cowboy hat made me look like a cowboy, I guess it makes sense that even though I will never be one, it's still worth it to be a smart buyer. I just draw the line when mods make me have worse mileage, worse handling and worse rides without any of the benefits.

I agree. I will never lift mine, won't ever put big tires on and and won't ever buy rims for it. They all hurt the performance of the truck for how I use it. I subscribe to the utilitarian theory. But I also believe that people should be able to do whatever they want to their truck without being ridiculed for it. A lot of the people don't really use their truck as a truck, they just like how trucks look and feel. More power to them in my opinion.

Amen! I use mine to haul trash a few times a week, and I need the 4wd to get to work for roughly 3 months a year during the winter. The rest of the time? I just like being "that guy with the truck" whenever it comes up. Sometimes it's moving house, sometimes it's just hauling stuff from home depot. It also comes in handy for hauling everyone's camping gear during the summer. Rarely, someone I know can "borrow" a boat / party barge for the weekend, but their FWD Crossover can't quite handle it.

Most of the time though, it's a commuter vehicle for the whopping 2 miles to work. That's why I wanted a "Light" truck.

I haven't read thru all the posts... LOL You were the lucky one that I respond to...(no offense)

I'm in the market for another truck for next spring and I will be considering the twins. You're saying I don't want or need a truck?

Why would I buy a truck if I didn't want or need it?

Toyota has definitely pinpointed its market to the 'younger adventurous' crowd for sure. Every time I see that one commercial on TV, I'm thinking to myself....... they're promoting our youngsters to haphazardly do stunts that will end up as a video on Ridiculousness. If I were 10 years younger, I'd probably be on the tail end of that crowd.

But now? I'm old....priorities change.... hobbies/interests change (and that's not because you don't want to, its because you can't physically).

I use my 4WD in the winter. I don't need 4 doors and I want a fullsize bed. I own a home, I haul a lot of crap. I look forward to luxuries and 'getting exactly what I want'. Unfortunately... Toyota doesn't offer 'exactly what I want' in terms of cab configurations and packages. So... I'm researching other options. If Toyota had made all the options available in EVERY cab configuration, it'd be an automatic Toyota decision.

Or perhaps, Toyota is thinking the 'older- luxury seeking-crowd' will buy the Tundra instead??

No, the older, luxury crowd will buy a Lexus SUV and a small trailer if they ever need to haul anything, or simply have Lowes or HD deliver it.

CR also rates washing machines and hardly knows their ass from a hole in the ground. I never waste a minute reading their opinion on anything.
If you think a Chevy truck is as quality as the Tacoma your in LA LA land!
