Why pick 2016 Tacoma DCLB over F150 DC (supercrew)

Different class of truck. For me an F-150 won't fit down the trails near me. I could also go on about resale.

 

I actually owned both and sold the AC w/6MT because of the cab configuration and transmission. You're correct that the doors would drive you insane and I have yet to think that I wish I had my 6 foot bed again.

 

I have preferred my 6.5' bed and will not go down to something smaller. I haul a lot of junk (bags and personal belongings) on road trips and like the extra space. Especially with large coolers being back there taking up some room. When hauling any big supplies it has served me very well and I feel safer with the longer bed rather than having additional or any overhang of items.

I don't like trailers. Owning one isn't an option at my place. I have no where to put it. I also don't want to insure it or license it, that is an additional cost (different locations may vary on that). I also don't like driving it around if I don't have to. Especially long distances.

For what I usually haul, a trailer is added expense, hassel, and makes no logical sense.

 

Like others said, 2.7 only so I don't experience it with my 3.5, and one of the reasons I avoided the 2.7. The MPGs were tempting, but new engine, new start/stop algorithms, etc made me hesitate. The 3.5 has at least been around for a few years for the bugs (hopefully!) to be worked out!

Same here! Backed it up to the basement steps, wife and daughter tossed them down an old door converted to a slide, and I hand stacked them on a pallet in the basement. I used to transfer 10-20 bags by hand to a cart, push the 400-800lbs across home depot to the cashier (because the only have outdoor registers during summer and christmas tree season), then out to the parking lot, hand load into the truck, return the cart, and unload/stack again at home. But I saved on gym membership, right?

True. However 10ft materials will hang out of the F150 2ft or less vs almost 4 ft on the DCSB. Hell, I could reasonably haul 12ft lumber in the F150 whereas with the DCSB there's almost more out of the truck than in it. Which means you *really* need to rely on strapping the load down.

The DCSB was a 24x7 commitment as well every time I needed another foot in length, a few inches in width, or a few inches in height to stack more loose material. The bed quickly filled up with extra clothes, snow gear, and presents when taking the kids to Grandma's for Christmas. It was always a balance of strapping long objects down tight enough to not move with 4ft hanging off the back and not tight enough to crush/damage what I was hauling. With the rear camera, backup sensors, and larger mirrors I have no problem parking the F150. It's actually easier than the DCSB aside from the larger turn radius. I've also parked in the parking garage at the hospital without a problem several times, and it's not a large parking garage. My biggest issue was always height with those, and the F150 is only 2-3" taller than my DCSB with a 3" lift.

 

^This. I have to register and inspect the trailer each year. And that's calendar year, not 12 months from when you registered it. (I found that out when I had to pay the full registration fee AGAIN 3 months after I bought the damn thing!) The truck is yearly inspection and 2 year registration, both from the issue date so there's no fucking way to line up with the trailer for 1 trip to the inspection station.

And now I have a 5x18 hunk of steel that needs to get shuffled around every time I mow my lawn. Took myself, my wife and 3 daughters 20 minutes to dig it out of a snow bank last winter for a run to get pellets from the last place around with full tons for sale. And that was before I said fuck it, backed the truck up enough to hook up, and dragged it out. Hell, I wouldn't even have needed to come home for the trailer let alone dick around with it for half an hour before driving back to the place selling them. I could've just detoured on the way home to get them with the F150.

 

Yep, I have been doing that for years, all of my trucks always have a topper...basically used it as a giant trunk. Bikes damn near load themselves. I was at the trail head last Sunday, bunch of guys pulled up in their jacked up trucks..and I watched them struggle to unload them. One guy saw me unload mine, he said damn dude that is nice! Yep..."Old age and treachery will always beats youth and exuberance."

Dude even gave me a compliment on how I have may Taco setup, just when I am totally bored with it...someone says something nice. I keep on looking at fullsizes...then say to myself...what I have works fine for 95% of the things I do, plus I really like it...so...

 

This might be the icing on the cake for some guys that might be still on the fence (me included). Gonna check out some deals this month and next.

Finally had a chance to see the new Tacoma in person here in Hawaii. Overall impression was that it is a nice looking truck. Didn't have a problem with the grill on the Sport or TRD. Looks much nicer than my buddy's new Colorado. Didn't drive it, but looked inside. After driving a F150, couldn't help but feel claustrophobic in the cab of the Tacoma. Everything just felt really tight and closed in, and I really couldn't see four adults driving in the DC for more than an hour. Going to keep an open mind and wait until they get in a DCLB TRD OR to test drive, but thought I would share my initial impressions.

 

I'm gonna get flame for this...but for a few guys that are still undecided...go check out Ford. The Friends and Neighbors promo looks to be a very good deal. I priced a F150 XLT 3.5EB Supercrew, 4x4, fully loaded for $38K. Yeah I know this is a Tacoma forum. That said, go with what works for you. For a $30K+ vehicle, I expect more creature comforts, which is something Tacoma lacks .

Don't get me wrong, I like my 15 Taco. But will probably trade it in for a 16 Taco MT, 4Runner, or F150 by the end of next May if not sooner. Unless of course I start getting goodies for the 15, then I'll keep it .

 

Exactly on the feeling closed in. I've had the F150 going on three weeks. Now I wonder how I ever felt comfortable in my '13 Tacoma. There is so much room in the F150 Super Crew. Front seats and back seats, leg room, and the back seats fold up giving you an almost unobstructed rear floor space. I took my Tacoma on a 700 mile round trip road trip last year with four people. It was tight for the people in back. Everyone has to choose based on what's best for them, but they should also explore all the options.

After almost three weeks of owning my F150, my observations are, what a nice truck. Room, power, ride, creature comforts. The fuel mileage so far seems better than my Tacoma around town. And as you said, the deals right now are killer. As I said above, everyone has to decide what's best for themselves, but so far, I have nothing but positive comments on the F150.

 

Yep inside the garage to keep the paint nice. Big trucks are just too big and cost more to run. When I had a roofing business the 3/4 ton was good .
Most guys drive around a full size truck and haul nothing. Tacoma is the right size.
I pull a enclosed trailer or a flatbed.

Till you go anywhere with a load. Or even without a load try a big hill! The little gutless prius is out of luck! Most hated car on the road.

 

I agree compare them to the TUNDRA I don't want one of those either.
150 double cab long box is a huge banana boat much too big to run to the store. Really only needed for the farm. Where if I was a farmer I would have a ford. The access cab Tacoma fits me I 'm single with plenty of girl friends.

 

I have no problem making trips to the store, to the school to pick up my girls, or to the hospital parking lot (or garage) in the truck. In fact, even my wife thinks the truck drives easy. Maybe she can teach you or the other guys that think it's too big to handle.

 

Not too big to handle, just won't fit period. It is an apples to oranges comparison though.

 

It won't fit at the store? Sounds exactly like you are saying it is too big to handle. May you just don't have enough experience driving yet?

I happen to think the Tacoma DCLB looks dead sexy. A lot of people think it looks like a limousine but I thinkt hey look great. Especially with a modest lift.

Too bad you can't get them with a manual trans.

I dunno, sometimes they look great...other times it looks odd. Think it is the stock vs. lifted....lifted looks sooo much better.

 

Wow @SwollenGoat your truck is legit man.... It makes me want a DCLB so badly since I want to be able to carry more useless crap in the bed lol.
