30k Service... Yes Another 30k thread..

I have been told by Toyota and 3 other mech's that i don't have to change the spark plugs because from the factory they put plugs that are rated for 100k miles... now i have read all the threads about the typical 30k service, why is it a good idea to change the plugs. also, does the rear diff take the full 3 bottles of fluid? i have become a DIYer over the last year of owning this truck but i still have questions after reading the threads about the 30k please help me out

 

I changed my plugs at 40k after getting the truck used from a Toyota dealership and I have to say it was a good idea. The old plugs were ready to come out and had lost their gap over time. In my opinion it helped smooth the idle and ride of the truck, I also cleaned my throttle body, but i don't know if that did that much for me. More like peace of mind than anything else.

Thanks to Chris4x4's write up, it's really easy to do and should only cost you about $20 for the plugs http://www.earnhardttoyotaparts.com/sppl40liv6.html. Why not do them and rest assured that you're not being robbed of power and fuel economy?

 

V6 has old school cooper plugs. I'd change them, search away to save some bucks.

I just did my rear diff for 2nd time last nite. 15/16 or 24mm socket, 3 QTs, and a little tube to squeeze it in.

 

Yeah I am coming up to my 30K service mark as well. I have about 850 more miles to go.

 

has anyone used those e3 diamond fire plugs. im thinkin about useing them

my trucks an 08 and its almost at 30k u make me sad

 

I changed mine at 30k and 60k. Both times the plugs were off by .05

 

Can the original plugs be cross referenced to a Platinum or Iridium Plug ??

 

thanks for the help, i stopped on the way home and picked up some iridium plugs and goo along with some rear diff fluid... calling for rain tonight and tomorrow so if i need help on thursday i hope ya'll respond in a fastly mannor i have been a DIYer since i have had this truck so yeah, i have alot of questions. btw chris4x4 good write up you have too, makes it seem like it'll be a snap with some patients.

 

I'm coming up on the same (48,000 km) 30,000 mi service. I figure that I didn't ought to take the chance and risk of leaving it and the plugs being seized in place. I'm sure that performance issues would arise first though, way before in fact. And for about $20 I can do the job myself (thanks Chris ) instead of paying dealership labour rates. I bought six Denso plugs.
