After only spending two months with my Bilstein 5100s, I realized I made a mistake in rushing things, and Im now looking to move onto some coilovers . I feel the ride is too harsh and since I have the dough to build the truck Im gonna move forward and do so.

Im pretty set on the rear: Icon RR & a new leaf pack (probably All Pro or Deaver)

Im having issues with the front though. I cant afford a long travel so I know Im not gonna be able to hit whoops at 60MPH and have the truck ride like a caddy. However, I want the softest ride possible. Right now Im trying to figure out what my best bet would be between these options:

    1. Spindle Lift & Set my Bilstein 5100s at "0"

    2. Icon RR set at 2.5" (This preloads the spring though resulting in a harsher ride than if it were to be a "0", is this better than #1 still?)

    3. Fox 2.0 RR set at 2.5

[With a larger shock body do I get a softer ride or less chance of fading?]

    4. Fox 2.5 RR set at 2.5

In the process of looking at shocks Ive also seen that some are labeled "extended travel" or some allow you to choose how much travel you want. Whats the catch? I would think you would always want more travel so is there something limiting my travel?

Lastly, for those who have these shocks, how would you say ride quality is compared to stock suspension considering that he spring is preloaded for my aplication?

ICON offers an extended travel coilover to match the extra travel ability of Uniball UCAs. To avoid preloading the coilover, you would need to get longer bolts and use a top plate (topspacer lift), however thats not really recommended. If you do lift spindles, then you should not need to adjust the coilovers up though. Deaver leaf springs are gona give you the softest ride in the rear, along with a shock that has softer valving.

I would say grab a set of new spindles for the lift, then get a pair of either Fox, King, or Icon coilovers to give you the smooth ride and if you still have any money left after that then add some new UCAs. oh and removing the sway bar did wonders for me :D

EDIT: if you get new spindles you will not need to preload the coils

Yea I thought about getting some spindles AND setting the CO at 0 for the softest ride but I dont wanna shell out that much cash. The way I see it is if Im gonna go with spindles and CO, I would rather save the 1,000 from the spindles to use toward LT but that comes out too expensive so for now Im looking at spindle lift OR coilover lift.

Yea I definitely wanna steer clear of spacers. As far as Extended Travel goes though, I have the TC UCA's so 14" would work 12"/14" would work right?

Well I don't know what the actual travel measurement is, Just that it is about an inch or so more than the standard coilovers.

go for the all pro leaf pack and fox piggybacks for the rear, allpro sells both and alot of people are happy with that setup. i will at some point switch to all pro leaf pack and ditch the deavers. you can't rebuild the icon shocks in the rear. front fox or king and a spindle sounds good.

so what are you looking to spend? if you already have billys you can get the convert them to coilovers with the toytec setup. i think its about 400 for that. then 1000 for camburg spindles..1400 total isnt that bad considering the fox 2.5 CO's are like 1350

For the front, 1400 is about my budget. In the end though, will billstein CO ride softer than fox or kings set at 2.5?? I also have yo consider that billys have to be replaced, fox and kings can be rebuilt.
