On my way out of town Monday a minivan ran a red light and hit us( me and my wife). They said they did not see the red truck with the lights on. I saw them but it was too late changed lanes and tried to stop but they still hit us. They hit right at the front right tire could have been a lot worse. The truck (2015 only 6 months old and less than 6500 miles) damage was mainly to the front quarter panel and tire for us their minivan bumper and front broken into pieces.

I have Nationwide insurance and they were great got the wrecker there right away(even before the cops called for the minivan) even thought it was not even 8 am yet. Enterprise took awhile to pick us up but with it being a Monday before 9 by that point it was to be expected. When we got to the Enterprise I ask what they had for us the guy they said a minivan(HELL NO) or a sedan. Even though I have kid there is no way I would ever drive a minivan and after monday I hate them even more. I said NO and I tried to be nice and the person in charge came out and got us a Ram 1500 from another location. Truck has been at the shop since Monday (pics with different tire on it tire and rim were destroyed) estimates are starting around $5000 but still waiting on the adjuster for their insurance since they are paying for all of it.

The shop is Gerber Collision has anyone ever used the before? This is a pic of the back of the tire while on the wrecker I am wondering how bad yal think it is and if the A-trac is affected. What do you guys think?

Awe man that sucks. Glad everyone was okay. Cars can be fixed / replaced.

As far as the damage goes... It looks like you came out pretty well considering.

You may also want to ask the insurance company (hers or yours not sure) about decreased value compensation or whatever they call it since now your vehicle has been wrecked as far as any future buyer is concerned down the road.

I'm glad no one was hurt mulletman. A friend told me that statistically red vehicles were involved in more accidents, where they were the vehicle hit, than any other color. Didn't make sense to me. Don't know the source of his information. Could have been NTSB, I guess.

I have Nationwide also and when my Mustang was hit a few years ago they had me take it to Gerber also. The work they did was fantastic, everything matched perfectly and looked better than before it was hit. The guy who hit me ran a stop sign and admitted to it (luckily) so it was covered by his insurance completely, but Nationwide still recommended I take it to Gerber and his insurance agreed with that. It was the back quarter panel and I think the price was a little cheaper than yours, maybe around $3,000, but since I didn't pay anything it didn't matter to me the cost.

An accident like that is bound to affect resale, as it is legally required to be disclosed, at least in Canada. Most folks would be shy about purchasing a used Tacoma that had a history of serious damage affecting the front drive train. I know that I'd be reluctant to purchase such a vehicle.

It doesn't look that bad, but it's a bummer how new it was. :(

Thanks everyone yes we were all ok wife was shaken up but she will be ok. She was reading and looked up just in time to see the minivan in front of us.

Thanks that what I was hoping to hear.

Still waiting for the adjuster(of the party at fault)to get to the shop and call with the complete total and at that time I am asking for loss of value of the truck. Went by today to get some stuff out of the truck and they had everything on the front end disassembled and didn't look too bad. Worst was front quarter panel the bumper will also be replace just because the mounting brackets got broken off on the corner. The hood and door seem to have missed any damage gaps look ok but will have to see once it get reassembled.

ATRAC is basically all electronic, controlling wheel spin through the braking system, so not too much to worry about there. Perhaps if the wheel speed sensor was broke and they didn't replace it, then the ABS along with ATRAC wouldn't work.

Glad you and yours are alright. Can always get another Taco. You can get another wife, too, but it's a lot more hassle. :)

Glad your OK. I know how you feel about your truck. Sounds like you have a good shop. It should be good as new.

    The better coast
Shitty, sorry that happened. Tell them you want a depreciation check after your ride is fixed up.

How fast were the speed limits?

Got the accident report Monday and after talking to the other drivers insurance they wanted to use after market parts, I told them was not happening. They finally agreed thanks to shop finding the best price on the parts work in progress now. Current preliminary summary is down to around $4500 in parts and labor for new front bumper. grille, fender, tire+rim and several other smaller parts. Went by yesterday and they said there was some more suspension damage so but they did show me all the new OEM parts waiting to be installed. Was hoping to have it back by the end of the month but looking like that not going to happen. Damn I miss my truck even though I got a 2015 Ram as a rental it sucks except for gas mileage because its 2WD. I already told my wife first day having it back I am fully testing the 4WD:mudding: .

Just a tip... Mine was hit about the same way. It actually bent a "tab" where the suspension mounts to the frame just a small bit. The only fix was an entire new frame. Mine seems to have been hit a little harder than yours was, but I would definitely make sure they check that mounting location. I've been waiting on a new frame since Oct 3rd.

Good luck and glad you guys are ok!

I think I remember reading at one time that is also one of the main reasons cop cars use blue lights now - used to all be red but they determined that drunk drivers would be drawn to the flashing reds on the side of the road and hit them much more than the blue lights.

Doesn't look like the airbags went off. How fast do you think the van was moving when it made contact?

Other driver insurance has already agreed to loss of value claim to be determined after all repairs. I plan to keep it for awhile before getting a 3rd Gen.

They were going else than 25 mph this is a right turn only light and they came straight out without stopping for the redlight. I saw was in the right lane with a going 45 mph(this is a highway) saw them entering the highway moved to left lane, if I had not I would have t-boned the minivan as they never turned. I braked and moved to the left lane as I could avoiding the signs and median. They still came straight across and hits us their impact speed estimate(by the accident report) their was still 20 mph and mine was 30 mph. The impact on the truck was centered in the tire with the secondary on the fender and around it and with the minivans low bumper was a cushioned blow on us I think this is the reason no airbags went off. Their impact was not as cushion as it knocked them 90 degree back into the right lane. There was only 1 small piece of red on the road from the fender flare but alot of gray minivan bump and lights all over the road.
