First time tacoma owner here, got the dc lb sport, and so far I love it.

My question, how does it compare to the off road, and in general, what are its off road capabilities. I would love to join a local ride in the bush. Nothing crazy, bit of mud and hills. But before I do this I need to know the sport model will be fine for a beginner's type run. Straight stock so far. Dont want to get crazy and break something on the new truck just want to know if the 4x4 system in the sport model will hold up or not.
thanks in advance for the good advice

It's 4x4 with 4Hi and 4Lo. Minus the locking rear diff, and crawl-control (neither are required for OR, though the locker will get you out of a pinch), and OR-tuned suspension you are good to go. Tires and skills are going to be your main limitations, but you should be fine for most casual off-roading. Anything serious and you would be wanting to mod the OR too.

The main thing I would watch is the likelihood of trashing your tires. They aren't made to handle lots of sharp rocks and sidewall scrapes (none of the stock tires).

Id like to keep the wheels tho, theyre nice looking.
just upgrade tires to something that has grip but also feels good on the road for semi long drives.
What are peoples preferences on a stock suspension. I know theres tons of threads already

3" lift, goodyear wrangler duratracs 285/70r17, k&n filter, bakflip vp tonneau and tint.
Honestly good tires and driving skills and the truck is great off road.

Good tires and good driving are the main recipe for good, off road fun on most 4x4s..

/s just make sure to keep mud out of your scoop, because it could clog up the intake /s
