Yeah I dunno. I just find clutchless stupid and amatureish. I think hill assist, and crawl control are stupid too. I probably am not accepting of these new things because it took me time to become proeffecient with the old methods. So that makes me another douche bag on the internet.

I wouldn't really say that the purpose is to save yourself from rolling backwards over a cliff, since face it, you really shouldn't be in a situation like that ever no matter what, especially if you aren't VERY proficient with the transmission.

Hill start assist / no-roll-back / whatever can be replicated with the hand brake anyway.

This is an emergency mechanism to get your vehicle out of an intersection or off the highway if your engine blows up or you run out of gas.

Exactly. And the lazy button to start your truck without jumping in it.

Yeah probably. Though that wouldn't be a reason to add the button, just a welcome benefit that comes along for the ride.

Using the clutch start cancel for that has saved my ass more than once. I like to call it hybrid mode. Although on really steep stuff, it won't turn fast enough to start, but can get you up a couple feet and into a better position. Got me up Wipeout Hill after stalling in a precarious position:

^^^ if you want your truck to last long enough to take you home at the end of the day, you won't do that.

I used it for a total of about 3 seconds in that situation to get me away from a ledge. If something goes wrong with your battery or starter in that short of duration, they were bound to fail anyways. Truck has 255K, and I put over 1,000 miles offroad on it this season, that trip being the first. I'll continue to use the clutch start cancel button on the rare occasion I need it.

Man some of you guys are just pure haters lol...

I think it was a great idea, even though I've never used it. Just one more option at my disposal.... You know, they didn't have to add it, but they did for the "just in case" scenario.

Yes, I get it, some of you are the best manual drivers out there, but give it a break.

I used it in my old TJ Rubicon (Jeep Wrangler) all the time. When the nose of my Jeep was 45* pointed in the air and 500' drop off behind me, I'd turn off the Jeep, get out, and assess the line. It was nice to get back in and start the Jeep with the wheels turning.

Park your Tacoma on the steepest incline you can find. How confident are you that if you roll the slightest amount backwards, you may die? Use the clutch defeat and start the motor with the wheels turning.

Ok...well i'll give you that my reaction was definitely an over-reaction, but i doubt that the opinion i expressed will make manual transmissions no longer an option on trucks. You're correct that we all start somewhere...even I did, when i was 12 and i threw my grandfather out the back of the farm truck as i drove across the cornfield in his manual F250. :)

that said, like anything, it needs practice...and i'm sure that you've spent the time needed to operate your vehicle safely.

Thanks for the "check"...you've got a point.

point well taken...but when i learned in a old grain truck with square gears you had to double-clutch, going up a hill when it's full...you learn quickly.
