No matter how much or where I wheel, the tacoma is still my DD which means it sees way more asphalt than anything.
~20k/yr up until now (although that will change with a new job 5 miles from the house)

I'm just not willing to put up with a bad ride, vibrations, crazy road noise, or worst of all, having to buy new tires every year or two.

I also don't feel like I'm giving up anything or compromising in any way. I just simply haven't been anywhere where a similarly equipped Tacoma with different tires had any advantage over me.

The only drawback (for some, not me) is looks. They just don't look all gnarly.

    I tried to give a shit once. Couldn't. :D

Not sure. I know she specializes in vulcanizing testicles.

So I went ahead and bought some of this from Chingy-Chongy China. 4 meters worth for $7.95, free shipping. That's enough length for two cap doors (approx 5 ft needed for one), plus 2 extra feet for me to experiment with on any other problem areas. So if it waers out or tears after a few years, I'll have another on-hand.

The 3M tape will go along the inside of the glass door's bottom edge, the offset wraps under the glass toward the rear, padding the 1/4 in. gap between the bottom of the glass and the top of the aluminum RTP, and then the remaining bit of seal should seat across the top vertical portion of the RTP, flexing just slightly for a nice water- and dust-tight seal. If Allah wills it.

Oh yeah, just rememeberd I need to add tailgate seal to the list...BRB.

Good luck in the war. The war on dust. I'm weather sealing some stuff right now. I try to stick to the reputable name brand stuff for sealants. The chinese stuff has knock off 3m tape. But you might get lucky with it.

Trim-Lok Inc makes some really good stuff with 3m tape if your interested.

    1. You should try dust sealing a 1st gen tailgate. It was a freaking nightmare, and I was largely successful, but it was not highly durable. 2nd gen looks pretty easy compare to that.

    2. God fucking dammit, why hasn't this come up in any of me searches?!?!?!
    http://www.trimlok.com/prod/Flap-Se...egories_128/Flap-Seal-Product-Builder_47.aspx

I can get 250 feet of it for only $472! That's 50 units at $9.44 per. Plus labor and shipping and handing, so, $25 each. How many would you like to order, sir?

Thanks for the tip, didn't' even think about that source. Did not find anything quite right, although the do carry a few versions of the trim lok flap seal, which is the closest concept to what might work.

If what you have already doesn't work...

    1. Check the trim lok catalog for what you may want.
    2. Call them on the phone ask for a sample to be mailed to you (free). It will also include a high quality print version on their catalog. nice!
    3. Amazon has a form based ordering system for all their products, some but not all can be ordered in user friendly quantities and prices.

I've got some in my garage queued up for project install for later this month. Going to add secondary auxiliary door seals.

Here you on on the 1st gen!

    Thanks for the tips

In the link I posted above, I had already dug through their site and "built" the flap seal that would work. The glass is 3/16 thick, and the gap between the bottom of the glass and the RTP is 1/4. The image below shows variant of the flapseal but it is the offset version at the fat left that would work to extend out and over the rear top edge of the RTP for water shedding. I think and additional very small D profile EPDM applied in the small inside crotch of the "L" profile would provide a tight dust seal.

Honestly, as I've been looking into this, I thought a kind of group buy might be in order for this fairly small niche (Leer XQ and XL owners with RTP o_O) of need, I'd buy the main batch, cut and tweak it, then redistribute. Or some shit like that.

Just got caught up in Soctt's thread. :) I don't know if I have any coool stories to share right now, but I can tell a parenting story about when my first was born.

After about 3 months she decided she wanted to be bottle fed. My wife and I took turns tending to the baby. My job was every other night. So every other night I slept great and, every other night I had to wake up every 3 hours. The system actually worked really well. I don't know what I did wrong in a past life, but she did not sleep through the night until she was 2 years 2 months old. I thought my sleeping patterns were permanently altered because of this. And just when I thought it couldn't get any harder, the second child was born. OMG. Thank the lord above, that child rejected the baby bottle and wanted only the mama. Still, that child didn't sleep through the night until 2 years 3 months old. Some days I thought I was going to die before the sunrise. lol From October 2013 to Feb 2014 I was sick. Kid germs, babies, toddlers put everything into their mouths. I flew to the east coast when the oldest was 6-months. I watched in horror and hilarity as she teethed on the airplane head rest. FML And then we had a layover in Pittsburg where she licked the aluminum floor of the terminal waiting area. Lawd! Those days are long gone for us now, but great memories. Raising kids is fun, exciting, tiring, and very complex. We're at the stage now where they're developing a social life, play dates, and kid activities on the weekend, so it's increasingly difficult to schedule things that I need to do. Lot's of self sacrifice being a parent and all. :D

Scott is this how all Leer's look when they're debadged?

If so, I'd definitely fill in that indentation on the rear. That looks horrendous.
