checkin out the frame rust

Ok well it passed the hammer test so they told me to check back in a year or so,now.....do i even want the coating or wait for a new truck

 

Thats what they told me this past summer. Essentially mine will fail next year, so I am not bothering to try to preserve the frame. No undercoating for me, and I go mudding more now and shit because it won't matter.

But I dont want a buyback. I am going to try to get a new frame instead.


So I would say, based on your pictures, that you should probably just let it fail, then go from there. If you get a lot of money, than thats great. If you wont (like me...I get basically nothing), than maybe you should try to get a new frame.

 

Sorry to see all the rust problems happening...I'm in a dry desert environment and lucky haven't seen any problem so far. I was curios though...would the application of undercoating have been a benefit when the trucks were purchased new, or would it have made no difference? What's the best product that you can have applied to your truck to keep this from happening in the first place? I've read in the past something about a oil application...

 

X2... We get checks, the guys with 01's and up get frames...

 

Mine was undercoated before it ever saw the salt. Lasted 8 years from new.

Not a speck of visible rust on the outer body panels and the bumpers were fine. The frame rusted from the inside out in many cases.

I think in that case, the boxed frame actually contributed to the demise.

 

I wonder if there is any way to seal the inner frame??? Has anyone tried?

 

i know...im still going to try. the cost of the frame (without the labor of installation) is a little less than I would get for the buyback.

One of my friends is a tech at the South Burlington Toyota dealer (he is also the #1 Prius guy in New England...very smart and well known). He seemed optimistic about my idea. Said he would help me try to get a frame swap.


Powerful friends can help with things sometimes...So who knows.

 

Does anyone know what exactly they replace when they do a re-frame, is it just the frame or other parts like leaves, gas tank, skids, etc. And do they replace any rusty body panals. And this frame change is completely cost free correct?

 

all it is is an extension of the original frame warranty coverage.it will not cover body panels as far as i know. I actually want a buy back. I only paid 4200, it books at 6000, so with them paying 150% of blue book i stand to make 4800 on it! works for me

 

Anyone know if it is free for inspect and undercoating.

 

ya its free, takes about an hour to inspect. they try to knock a hole in the frame with a hammer and if they cant then its not enough for them to do anything about. the coating is part of the warranty as well but they didnt offer it to me and when i asked about it the tech had no idea what i was talking about even though it is clearly mentioned in the "letter to dealers". id say if you want a buy back dont do the coating.
