Hello Arizonans, there used to be a shop in Phoenix called "you fix it". They let you use their shop, lift, tools, welder, pipe bender, knowledge (if you need it), and Mitchell on demand etc... They would charge a small fee to rent the bay/lift and you fixed your car/truck yourself but at a shop instead of on your back in the drive way. I have a shop in North Phoenix, we only work Saturdays by appt only but are considering letting people fix it themselves on Saturdays to save money vs paying a shop. Considering there are alot of " do it yourselfers " on this site I'm wondering if this would interest anyone? Let me know what you think, questions, comments, concerns.

Liability, first thing that comes to my mind. Cars on a lift, people who only half way, if your lucky, know what they are doing. Idk I'm sure others will chime in, but there is a reason that shops don't like to let customers in the bay.

I like the idea, we just live is a law-suit happy world. Kinda sad that was the first thing that came to mind.

I'm not anywhere near you but I'd say it's a good idea and customers would love it.

As already mentioned the liability would be huge..
I'd worry about tools disappearing too. And the tools being misused/abused.

Almost every military base in the U.S. has an auto shop like that. Usually they make you do a 30-45 minute class on how to operate the lifts and safety stuff, what tools are available, that sort of thing. And then sign a waiver.

We'd be the ones to actually put the car on the lift and there's only 5 bays, 2 lifts 2 of us, hard for tools to walk away in a small shop. So I think we'll go for it. If this is something you'd want to do let me know and I'll set up a lift for ya.

I think only military guys can use this feature. It's great for our service men and women so we are offering it to those that aren't currently serving.

I love the idea. It's near me, too, which makes it even more enticing. There are just some things that would be 100x easier with a lift instead of using floor jacks and stands. Having access to those odd tools that I just don't own yet would be a big bonus.

That's fine, because I always plan my repairs well in advance and usually bundle them into a single-day set of projects. If I'm going to tear into something on the truck and have the tools all out in the garage, I like to conquer 2 or 3 things the same day.

I have some projects coming up in the somewhat near future, so I'll reach out to you about it in plenty of time.

I like the idea. There used to be a shop on military bases like that when I was still enlisted, used it for damn near everything.

In the general population, it's going to come down to three things: zoning, insurance, and can you trust your employees.

Its under the DIY tab at the top of the page, 15$/hour bay with tools, no lift, 30$/hour bay with tools and lift, techs are there to answer questions

That would be great for mod days.
