Yes, I like the drive along the Thompson river part, and have explored a couple of the canyons to see the waterfalls in there. Can you imagine the Thompson River water in a crazy spring flood year, was high enough to come onto the highway and close one lane in places. The water went completely right over the 'frog' rock.

Lol, not the smartest thing to do in Active Pass. The currents through there can be 3-10 knots.

Funny thing is we were on that boat last night but on the 5pm crossing

 

I have to admit, passing by that close to the islands, the thought of jumping in has crossed my mind; kind of like standing at th top edge of a waterfall an wondering what it would be like to fly. Thankfully a) the thought is fleeting, b) I say No to recreational pharmaceuticals.

Going through there in a small boat is even crazier if the tide is really running , you get big vortex whirlpools and you have to get out if the way of the ferries as they pass through

Thats where my BIL and I had our Orca encounter where they swam under the boat

 

Yeah, ive paddled through there in a kayak, timed it with Slack tide, though that only lasts 10 minutes. This whirlpools by the lighthouse on the western end are always impressive. In the kayak you can feel the boils lift you up.

 

When we went through in the morning yesterday there was a dozen or so sea lions feeding in the small bays on the Mayne Island side , I guess the tide probably washes all the bait fish that way
