if they are a couple lbs heavier it won't make such a significant difference in drivability to be concerned if somebody is ready to go with this size. the best way to look at a couple extra lbs is that you're either getting more tread rubber or more sidewall rubber or both!

I ran some st maxx for a while then ended up with the older cooper st model in 255/85/16, got a great deal on the cooper st i went for them. knowing they are only 49lbs i was worried about durability wheeling and really kinda still am, i know the sidewalls are thinner. They ride great, are pretty quiet and are wearing well. They work as good as the st maxx in mud. Until i puncture one of them i won't have any real complaints.

$800 for 5, that includes tax and install/balance. i am in canada and we pay quite a bit more per tire generally.

What's everyone's experience with keeping these tires inflated? Not sure why, but I seem to be constantly topping off the PSI every month or so. I've never had a vehicle before where I've had to check and fill the tires with air as much as I do with these tires. And it's not just one tire. It's all four.

The sad thing is, he paid less than most people I see on this forum bragging about from the U.S. It's kind of incredible that in Canada you can get a better deal than in the U.S. without too much trouble.

It's about the same down here in Orange County. I paid $1000 OTD for a set of 4 ST Maxx 255/85/16 through America's Tires including 8% sales tax, installation and CA tire tax. This was with a corporate discount passed to me through my work. The normal cost without the discount was around $1110.

Christ on a bike, it sounds like they've either raised their rates or are trying to gouge you. Where are you located?

When I got my 255/85/16r St Maxxs I was charged $16 a tire for install and lifetime spinbalancing, $2.50 a tire for disposal of my old set, and a $1 a tire environmental fee. They put new valve stems in my wheels for free (non-TPMS) and even hired a pair of high class prostitutes to take care of me while I waited. I don't know what your DT is up to.

Maybe your $24 per tire install includes the disposal and environmental fees? $216 still sounds too high..

I've never seen that low of a price in eastern PA. 5 installed for 160 a tire is passenger vehicle numbers, as those sidewall plys are expensive. My S/T were 215 ea installed three years ago.

The more I read quotes on this forum the more it sinks in that I got the hookup of a lifetime from my DT. I guess it helps to be a return customer for 20+ years:notsure:

Can someone please speak up that got these tires in the ballpark of 160-180?! If not I need to stop giving people advice, it will only raise expectations to absurd levels.

Best I got was a price match on $198 a tire (treaddepot) at discount tire. Of course they tack on the shipping charge to make the overall equivalent price of what tread depot was. I was still over $1k after install.

If anyone has an old/used 255/85, I am looking for one to use as a spare. It doesn't need to be in excellent condition, just needs to hold air.

I've been watching the prices of the ST Maxx for a while now and they have definitely gone up since I first started looking
