A long lost friend in Thailand died and left you his inheritance. You sent $300 to his estate to expedite the money release and now you're just waiting for that $250,000 check to arrive. Am I right?

Dealer called and said my frame was in, needed to setup appointment. 4 months for the frame, they ordered back in July. Not looking forward to this. I feel it is going to be a very painful experience. I can see arguing over parts they say I need and want me to pay for. I have a aftermarket skid plate mounted over the original skid plate. Does anybody think it is a good idea for me to remove it or let them do it? Also I'm thinking about having them install a new set of shocks/struts, just need to find out what they will change to swap over the springs.

I would take the skid plate off but it probably doesn't matter. As far as parts it sounds like it depends on your dealer, which makes no sense to me. I can't imagine why Toyota covers the extra parts to some dealers and not others. It's not like the dealers are eating 5k in parts to the guys getting them for free.

So I have heard that there have been no frame replacements for 2010s yet. Is this because they are not faulty or they have not rusted out yet? Is there anyway to tell who made your frame and when? Like a serial number hidden somewhere?

If you have a 2010, your frame was manufactured by Metalsa, there is no recall, and there will likely NEVER BE one.

Maybe I will take the skid plate off. I plan to drive to Tenn. over Thanksgiving (12 hr. drive each way). Might be a good idea to postpone the frame replacement until I get back. Not a good idea to go on a long trip after I get the truck back. God knows what problems could develop. Or, drop the truck off and use their rental for the trip. Save from putting the miles on my truck.

Hmm.... I see. Then on to my next question. When I got the truck I decided to have it Ziebart undercoated. Has anyone with a decent aftermarket undercoat that fell into the current 05 -09 recall successfully prevent frame failure, or does it just rust out somewhere else?

Question about the new rear leaf pack that comes with the frame replacement kit. I want to purchase my suspension now, before the dealership calls me to bring in the truck. Going with 5100s all around and planning to only raise the front 1.5" with new springs. I thought I read on a previous post that someone asked the dealer to install a 4 pack instead of the TSB replacement 3-pack? Is that really an option or will I have to pay extra? I hual a lot of gear in the bed and the leafs take a beating. I'm wondering if I should get an AAL or not. My budget is tight so if Toyota will give me a 4pack leaf with the frame replacement then I can save a few bucks. Anyone have that done with the frame swap?

You will likely get what everyone else had installed. The newest version of the 3+1 leaf pack. The ones I got measured @ 22" (center of hub to fender). The exact same height as the 10 year old 2+1 leafs they replaced. I have my 5100's set to 1.75", and was actually dead level @ 22" at all four corners (with the help of the 1/4" spacer on the driver's side). I wanted at least some rake, so I went with an AAL.

    Thanks @Fitz235

I was wondering about about the ride height. If I'm only looking to get a front lift of 1.5" then I should be able to get level with the new 4 leaf. No need for an AAL. This is good!

    No problem.

If your going with 5100's there are 4 settings, 0,.85, 1.75, and 2.5. I've had mine set to .85, and got 1" of lift in the front (which gave me 1" of rake). I now have them set to 1.75, and got 2" in the front. The common stock measurement is 20" front, 22" rear. The new leafs should measure @ ~ 22"

If your set on exactly 1.5", the Eibach springs are set up to give 1.6".

This kit I'm looking at says 1.5 but 2" works, as long as the front isn't higher than the back.

Sorry, I just re-read your post. I see that you're installing new springs. If the springs are giving 1.5", and that's all you're looking for, lift wise, then your rear should sit .5" higher than the front. Essentially leveled, with a slight rake. Just make sure the 5100's are set to "0".

Got my Tacoma back yesterday with the new frame. I bought Fluid Film and was applying it to the new frame and other parts when I noticed a leak in the front end. If you follow the CV boot near the wheel to the other boot towards the center of the truck, it's leaking to the right of the boot on both sides of the truck. I called them and they're going to look at it Monday. Anyone have an idea on what might be leaking? It's hard to describe where the leak is coming from, but I should of took a picture!

My guess would have been trans fluid for the one by the center but I am not so sure about that if both are leaking.

Edit: Now that I think about it the one by the center would probably only be trans fluid if it was a front wheel drive. Diff oil?
