Pretty cool to finally load my entire collection of music onto a USB 64 GB. Realize that most USB drives you purchase will come formatted as ExFAT. Tacoma won't didn't recognize it and it stayed disabled/grey out on my source choices. After some research, this USB port will only recognize FAT32 formatted drive. Was shocked the new electronics did not support ExFAT. Bummed the low amprerage of the port as well. Consider using the 12v plug adapter for power charging. Another helpful tip is to take some time to tag and organzie your music on the drive. It will list correctly in your list then and can sort easily as well by genre, artist, song, album.

    Below is your options.

    1) (NOTE THIS WILL ERASE DRIVE) Format your USB using Windows 7 and older machine, right click drive, click format, verify set to FAT32.

    2) (NOTE THIS WILL ERASE DRIVE) Windows 8 &10, can't format using FAT32, will require special software. Here is one that worked for me. http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm

Anyone else have tips? I'm off to figure out how to change start up image next. It's an option in the settings.

What I hate about the bluetooth is the loading time when it connects is quite slow in Premium JBL unit. I was unsuccessful playing the direct music with blue tooth. Said playing track, but was just silent and was no navigation to browse the music??? Does the music need to exist in a certain folder on my device. I have a Droid Maxx, (Android).

I just plug my iPhone into the USB for direct connect with the radio for music. If I unplug it there is a pause then it switches over to streaming through Bluetooth.

My wireless charging is working great. :) But USB tethered no worky either Droid Maxx as music source :( Pandora working fine through bluetooth. Does seem USB more apple friendly. I will look into the manual more about this weekend. Would be nice to just use my phone as the offline music source either through bluetooth or usb tethered.

I plugged a 128gb USB stick in a 2016 Tacoma on my test drive, but it only read 9,999 songs. I have almost 14,000 on the usb drive. Is that a format issue or a limitation of the Entire head unit?

I would think the latter. Probably not enough numeric spaces to get into the tens of thousands. It'll probably read them all though.

I plugged my old iPod in and it worked well. The controls on the screen were nice and easy to use.

I have the 2016 SPORT TRD, DCAB, 6SPD, Premium Audio w/ NAV.... it's works OK.... not the best with Samsung S5 phone. I can only connect the phone through Bluetooth. USB does not connect the phone to the system without Bluetooth activated in the phone. if Bluetooth is not activated there is no connection at all, the phone is not recognized by the system. However it does charge. I'm not sure if there is an issue with the phone or the HU. In my wife's subaru with the same phone I can do mirror link, thru USB with no issues & the Bluetooth works great as well..... anyone experience this?

I have an upcoming service on this issue w/ Toyota they said it should work thru USB lets see what happens.

Toyota flops again..... they can not understand why the USB does not recognize the Samsung S5 phone. The Head unit is made by Panasonic but there is no software upgrade at this time. So they are blaming the phone or cable (never the vehicle). They did say there is a history of issues associated with Samsung products and their vehicles but there is nothing they can do at this time to correct the situation.

i dusted off my old iPod from high school. had to pick and choose from my library because the iPod will only hold about half of what i have. i did find a couple refurb iPods on eBay that have SSD drives. would be nice to have a 256gb iPod and not have to worry about leaving anything behind.
