Something Seems Seriously Wrong

My 1998 corolla seems to be just as fast as my 03 V6 3.4L tacoma.

03 Tacoma V6 190hp

Deckplate Mod w/KN Filter
Dynomax Super Turbo Exhaust
NGK Iridium Plugs
Royal Purple Oil
Use Fuel Injector cleaner quite often (Lucas)
Also Just changed Fuel Filter


98 Corolla 1.8L 120hp

SRI
NGK Iridium Plugs
Just Started using Penzoil Platinum to Clean out sludge
Also use Quite a bit of Fuel Injector Cleaner (Lucas)


What I have noticed is that if I stomp on the gas, both will get me to 60 at around 9-10 seconds. The truck has always felt inadequate in power to me. Like once you get out of first or 2nd gear, it seems to take a while to get going to 60.

IDK maybe its just me, but is a 0-60 in 9 seconds slow? Shouldn't My Tacoma definitely be able to take my old 98 corolla?

 

slap 285s on that beast and REALLYYYY watch the power drop just give yourself PLENTY of time to pull out...or boost it....if its any consolation ive always felt mine has been on the sluggish side to...but i came from supercharged v8 (99 yukon)

 

think about how much lighter the corrola is. my taco can beat a V8 dodge Dakota so im pleased with it

Yeah I did consider that, but I just thought an 11 year old 120hp corolla would not be able to touch the taco.

Plus after putting in the deckplate and Dynomax, I expected more of a rush. Which I got a bit of.

I also think I really dont floor the taco as much. I think its just that the fact of the gas mileage that I can not seem to get myself to do it.

Could it be that I am running single ground NGK Iridiums rather than dual ground?

What is your 0-60 time?

 

i honeslty have no clue at the 1/8 mile i was going 66.83mph so i would guestimate around 8-9 sec?

 

I had a 2002 Corolla CE 3 spd auto that would skeedaddle from 0-60. It felt a lot stronger from a dead stop than my truck does. I'll bet it wouldn't tow my boat or haul a load like my truck does though.

 

Lighter weight, plus being closer to the ground will make it seem like it is quicker.

My dad's 04 corolla seems peppy, until you need to accelerate and you can feel the torque.

 

Maybe it just seems like your going faster cause your closer to the pavement lol

 

Yeah my little corolla definitely has some pep. It seems to have gotten better with age.

Right now it seems to be running the best it ever has been.

Any of you corolla owners think a dynomax like the one on the tacoma would be good for the corolla?

On corolla forums, most recommend magnaflow. But I like the dynomax on my tacoma.

 

My 2.7 Automatic Taco, can beat the hell out of the 2.8 5 speed S-10 I drive at work. And my Taco has 3 times the miles on it(140K). And the S-10 is a reg cab, reg bed.

I want to race my wife, 2004 trd dbl cab with my 2008 Tundra 4.7l long bed but she wont go for the pinkslips.

 

4 cyl vs. 6 cyl, AT vs 5-SPD.....Normally a 6 cyl will have more power, and with a 5 speed even more power... Mine is a 4 and it has more power than my 6cyl work truck. It's not hard to figure out if you pay attention and read what I said..... I'm not trying to be a dick either.

gotcha..i thought the older 4cyl s10's were 2.8... 2.2 or somethin.
