I would have done the same. Having an actual bed means you can throw stinky, dirty stuff in the back and not have to ride directly with it. Looks good.

As promised… updated photos of the plate dip accent to tail gate. Would've been done last night, but I wasn't keen on how to remove the tape so I pulled up part of the dip. Had to scrap it all and redo in the morning. Just drying now, then install and final pics. REMOVE TAPE IMMEDIATELY AFTER PLASTI GOES DOWN!

Yeah, overnighters is the plan. I'll post some more pictures of the platform build...I'm lazy so it's really simple but effective.

Yeah, its the ARE V series with front sliding window.

    @nwAdamR ....

My goal was something that weighed as little as possible, yet sturdy and easy to insert and remove.

So, I went with the most basic design possible. Two 2x6's cut to 57":

I cut the plywood with one side narrower in case I wanted to slide it over to stack more gear on that side and still have the larger platform in place for dogs to ride on. Cut a section off at the bottom of the narrow side for water container. Also, left access to bed tie downs. I cut an extra 1/2" off the length and width of the plywood so they would fit nice and snug when carpeted.

I'm no carpenter, but the beer helped me out here. I cut the carpet with 4" overhang on each side, laid the carpet face down, sprayed adhesive to plywood and backside of carpet, laid plywood on carpet, sat on plywood and drunkedly folded edges of carpet over and stapled.

One 6 pack later and this is what I got:

Total cost of supplies from home depot: $80
Drinking beer in the garage and building shit for the truck: Priceless.

Put together and installed shocks and airbag kit from Boss Air Suspension ,,, took the truck up to Island Springs in Ladysmith Bc and the boys worked there magic for a little more support and height ,, ride is slightly stiffer and still awesome ,,,, once I've got air to the bags it'll work out to about 2.5",, :))

The black lip at the base of the window is part of the hatch. I like that it hangs over the gate slightly...should prevent water/dirt from getting in. It is a little rough on the edge tho, so I'm going to take a dremel to it to smooth it a bit. There is a gap at the corner, might require stuffing something there if weather gets bad.

Started it. We took the Lexus to new Orleans for a week on a road trip so it sat in the garage neglected. Good news is after all the stuff I ate in NO the suspension in my Tacoma held up when I sat in it.

Looks good! How is the color match between the cap and the truck body in person? It looks pretty good in the photos.

Is that gap in the corner in both corners? Looks like they could've at least put some weather stripping or something there instead of leaving it wide open like that.

I put some 4" oval nerf bars on today. I don't have pics, but they look like they sit a little higher on the front. It's not bad really, just wish it was more adjustable to even it out perfect. Maybe some washers would do the trick.

I've seen several people here with bed mats. What's the point of them? I'm not sure why you would need them... Are they more frictiony (yes I made up a word) so things don't move, or is it to protect the original bed, or something else altogether? Thanks

The bed is slick so I put mine in for grip.....especially for the dogs.

Yes the bed mat helps make it more "frictiony". The bed liner is great but everything slides around like being on ice. I had some larger storage containers in the back ... and they slid all over the place ... It was hard to use tie downs because it was a container without good handles. The new mat held them in place easy without trying to create a "strap net" to hold them. Made a big difference for me.
