I'm no fan of ANY brand just because of the brand but I have to laugh when the fanboys agree with CR articles when it suits them. But when CR, at least for the 2nd Gen, gave the overall edge in their overall rating (drive test and reliability) by a significant amount to the Nissan Frontier then the fanboys say CR is full of shit.

It just makes you shake your head how some people justify their beliefs

Believe me, I put very little faith in magazine articles and their lists, but what if it was Tacoma on that list? Anyhow, you arrived right on queue with the exact response I expected.

And you contradict yourself once again.... Just the response I expected.

I don't mean to defend the twins, but at the Chevy dealer I work at, we've only had one transmission issue and it was minor. Climate and electronics? I don't think we've had any issues unless it was a reprogram of some kind that I don't know about.

First of all, I'm flattered that any "Fan Boy" is "paging me". Posting is becoming more difficult, TW is slowing the system and and causing the page view to go hay wire when I log in. NICE CENSORSHIP.

Yes the CR atop 20 lists some first year glitches. Good company with Mercedes, Acura, Infinity etc.

"The same problems, however, crop up among many of the cars on the list. They include balky transmissions, leaks, climate controls that don't control the climate and a raft of issues around fancy navigation and in-car entertainment systems".

Reported issues for the Colorado are indicated to be mostly around "fancy navigation and in-car entertainment systems". Transmission issues have been customers that request a reprogram because the are unfamiliar with the trans need to learn the customers preferred shift patterns.

The Colorado is now past first year, expect these issue have been addressed on the '16.

Do these issues sound familiar? Yes, if you read the 3rd gen thread. "Electronic, Climate systems, and transmissions" are the problems reported the on the '16 Taco. The '16 Taco has entertainment, nav, new climate control and new transmission along with a very complicated new engine. One guys electronics problem was deemed a safety issue and his new truck was repurchased. Another is trying for a repurchase. So as a New model, expect more teething problems for your Taco this year.

Next year we'll see if CR is tempering the all consuming Toyota love and reporting the '16 Tacoma problems

Here are the reasons that the Toyota Trainers here in Canada say you should only buy a Tacoma.

Thanks for that Mike. As far as my favorites, trying to decide between rear drum brakes or the fake hood scoop.

Now rear drum brakes are A COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE?

Yes, by two feet in the C&D test. Also they did not test with same tires.

    Pretty much meaningless.

Two feet could mean the difference between no damage and lots of damage :D

I was really hesitant about the rear drums before buying but the truck stops great so it's now a non issue to me. Don't understand why everyone is so stuck on this? Yes, disk ARE better but the drums work quite well...

Put a 5,000 lb trailer on the back and see which on stops better.

If I cared about towing heavy I would have kept my Ram. No midsize truck should tow that heavily on a regular basis. And again, I said disk are better but the drums are plenty adequate giving the intended use of the Tacoma

The only reason I hate the drum brakes is that it supposedly makes your dick smaller. :(

In terms of towing, rather than disk brakes, I would prefer a trailer brake controller as part of the tow package - just like the Tundra has.
