    "Title

Special Service Campaign (SSC) F0U - Certain 2010-2014 Model Year Tacoma 2TR-FE Vehicles - Exhaust Pipe Replacement for Catalytic Converter

    Description

In the subject vehicles the front catalytic converter internal components may become deteriorated and begin to rattle. If continually operated in this condition, the deteriorated components could become dislodged and restrict the exhaust flow. If this occurs, the vehicle may illuminate a check engine light, and, depending on the level of exhaust restriction, the vehicle may experience a reduction in power. Toyota has developed a new exhaust pipe with catalytic converters to prevent this condition from occurring.

    Remedy

Authorized Toyota dealerships are requested to replace the exhaust pipe with catalytic converters at NO CHARGE to the vehicle's owner. The owner notification will commence in Early November, 2015."

*Note: This is NOT a recall. See below for Toyota's definitions.

" Campaigns conducted by Toyota can be Safety Recall Campaigns, Special Service Campaigns and/or Limited Service Campaigns.

If you have completed a Campaign, but are experiencing concerns with your vehicle, please contact your local Toyota, Lexus, or Scion dealer for an inspection. Should you require additional assistance, please refer to the Contact Us section at the bottom of this page.

    Safety Recall Campaign
In accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act, when Toyota, Lexus, or Scion has determined that either a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety or a noncompliance with a Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard exists in your vehicle, a Safety Recall Campaign is launched. The specified inspection and/or repair will be performed at no charge to the vehicle owner.

    Special Service Campaign
A Special Service Campaign is the Toyota, Lexus, or Scion owner notification program to inform customers about specific product or technical issues for which inspection and/or repair is being offered without an expiration date. These issues are typically customer satisfaction initiatives. The described service will be performed at no charge to the vehicle owner.

    Limited Service Campaign
Limited Service Campaigns are programs to inform customers about a product or technical issue for which inspection and/or repair is being offered for a specified period. Toyota requests that customers take advantage of this service prior to an expiration date. The described inspection and/or repair will be performed at no charge to the vehicle owner provided the Limited Service Campaign has not expired.

Nevermind I put my VIN in on the Toyota Website and found that mine is involved with this Special Service Campaign as stated by the OP.

    Although no rattles ... yet.

    Thanks for the alert!

I've had a rattle for the longest time. Thought it was normal since the 2tr is a very gravelly sounding engine. Hopefully with the cat replacement it will fix the issue.

Just checked my vin number and my truck qualify for this replacement. But I don't notice any rattle. Will Toyota still do the the replacement even if there isn't a rattle?

I will find out when I go next week. I have a rattle, but I dont think it's coming from the catalytic converter. Worst comes to worst, I might just bribe the service adviser. Catalytic converters aren't cheap ;]

That would be very much appreciated, I look forward to hearing how that goes. I hope they just replace it with no questions asked.

I contacted my local dealer's service department about this. I currently don't have the rattle (125k) and notified the service advisor of this. He looked up my vin and said regardless of not having current issues they will replace. He said multiple parts are going to need to be ordered and the replacement would take about a day. He's going to call me when the parts arrive.

Is there usually a time limit on getting things like this done? Just thinking since I do not have the rattle, maybe just wait, rack up some more miles on the old converters for awhile and then go and get the new parts a little later in the truck's life. Thoughts?
