New Tacoma/Tundra factory LED bed light kit?

Went ahead and picked up one of these kits. Will run it off an unused switch in my lower panel under AC wired to something switched for no dead battery action. I do like the black button switch setup tho.

 

Coming off the trailer harness = no dead battery. It only has power when the ignition is on. I went with the bed switch because I already had a full switch bank under the AC. Air on board has some nice switches for this location in my opinion.

 

Hmm I may pick one up as well. How bright is it?

 

It's bright enough to see all of the inside of the bed at night. Page 7 has mine and another TW members pics. Here's another one I took last night with just my phone camera no flash.

 

I like these lights but I also want one of those swingcase toolboxes like below. I'm assuming I'll be blocking the light?

Ok. shot in the dark here. I like these bed lights, especially if I can wire my own switch to the interior and one in the bed. I also love this swing out toolbox (perfect for all my pop up camper tools). I don't mind that this would block the light as I can always swing it open if I needed more light but I would like to make sure the tool box can fit there with the light. From pics it looks like the light is sitting back from where the toolbox is mounted and it should be fine. Does anyone have this set up or would know if I close the toolbox will it hit the mounted light?

Looks like from the pic of the toolbox (hard to tell) that they use the same mounting point on the bed. I don't think you'd be able to use the bed lights and the tool box. Looks to me like the LED strips might be a better option for you. (Installation wise, can't comment on durability. )

 

You could always mount the lights at the other end of the bed.

 

Looks to me that the swingbox mounts to the section that juts out at the very back where that yellow sticker is (on the right) and the lights are forward of that section.

I may do the lights on the other end or get the strip lights...still undecided

I just lamed out due to time constraints and wired it up to the dome wires by fuse box since I have a cover on back and won't be annoyed with the bed lighting up every time the door is opened. Dunno if has been mentioned but wiring it this way you can turn the dome light to off position but that doesn't keep the bed lights from still coming on. When I get the right switch and some free time, I will be wiring it up to either a switch in center console, back in the bed or both. I do like the lighting it provides back there in the "trunk" tho.

 

Did you end up buying this box?

 

I did but I recently had back surgery so limited in what I can do; therefore, I haven't attached it. After installing toolbox, if it looks like there would be room for these light I may install them.

Installed mine yesterday, heres a night shot of them. They are pretty bright and held up well in the desert. I wired mine direct to the battery and put a switch on the inside of the passnger side cubby. I'll take better photos later

 

I can. Mine did not last a year. I replaced with some submersible 8" Shorelines. I like them more than the 5050s.
