Anyone prefer SR5 to TRD?

Absolutely

 

I think the sr5 with the appearance package is the best looking trim in the 16's. No ugly black fenders, no pointless hood scoop and some pretty solid looking rims. I like some of the goodies on the trd models but being a taller dude the moonroof is a deal breaker for me, so that made it an easy decision. When I buy one in 5 or 6 months it will be a sr5.

 

I bought a SR5 because , appearance, value, and its all the truck that I need. My 4Runner had all of the traction gizmo's and I never used them once in 5 years. Everybody has different needs in a truck and I think there are enough configurations and options to please everyone.

 

Not exactly, just the same 4WD system without a factory installed locker.

 

The SR5 price is still way over what it should be, but I like the package. I just want a TRD.

You do not need the premium and JBL package with the TRD. That makes the price $39k not $35k for a DC.
I would never pay $3k for JBL audio. Never. Way better systems to be had for so much less.

 

For me, it's about the seats. If the TRD seats are comfortable in the '16...I'd go with the OR. I love the wheels and black fender flares. Looks rugged.

 

I was in the same boat. Didn't want a sunroof and don't consider myself an off-road type. But, some of the extras the TRD has I wanted as I want to keep this truck for 10-15 years. So, I now have a debadged TRD Sport - can take or leave the scoop. I'd prefer the upgraded SR5 wheels over the Sports if that were an option. Functionally where it counts, they are the same truck.

 

I even went cheaper then you n bought an sr. I primary like the look of the sr the best.

I also like adding accessories so Sr was perfect for me. Like the truck didn't have keyless so I added remote start n it come with keyless and alarm.

Sound system didn't matter to me becuase I will be adding a 5 channel amp n replace all door speakers. I wasn't planning on the 5 channel Amp but when I tried the kicker hideaway. It wasn't enough. So I decided to replace the whole system which is better then using factory speakers. But that's next year. Too cold now for that.

 

Supposedly I'm getting a DC 4x4 SR5 in Quicksand. I have made a deposit at the dealership and was told that the truck would be made soon with an estimated arrival date of late November / early December. I have not seen a DC SR5 4x4 in Quicksand on the road or at any dealerships in my area of Northern Virginia. Hopefully it will be here soon...

 

My question is why did Toyota keep the "SR5" designation since it is short for "Sport Rally 5 speed" they should have called it a "SR6" to be accurate since the truck has a 6 speed now.

 

Was also on the fence over SR5 and OR trim too. Just couldn't bring myself to pay 35k total. Ended up ordering a base SR DC 4x4 with tow and dark alloy wheels for 33k drive out.

Black exterior, grey interior (only color option in SR). I'm coming from an 2003 so I don't need much to impress

 

when I was looking for a double cab short bed OR 4x4 in that color is was told only one was coming in in that time frame. Oursman Chantilly is slated for it last I heard

 

Because often manufactures use what was originally an RPO or moniker and it becomes a model or cliche'.
They know what works and use it to their marketing advantage.

ummmmm My 1991 4Runner is a SR 5 and a Sport Rally it is not. The 1991 V6 was not a neck snapper. Not sure how you describe a 3 speed transmission with a high and low range with ECT.

 

Super Sport Tacoma, or SST was a regions specific model that came with oversize Enkei wheels and tires. From what I'm told.

 

I thought that SR 5 came out originally on the Celica to denote Sun Roof 5 speed, which were about the only options on that at the time in about 1980

Originally released around 1975, the 'S' denoted Sport, 'R' denoted the RN motor code, and '5' denoted the 5-speed transmission. It quickly caught on and the SR5 connotation passed onto the Corolla and then onto other Toyota car models.

Today, the SR5 generally denotes a specifc Toyota trim level, with a more sporty look and wide flexibility for options.

Kind of like Z71 for Chevy Trucks.

 

A base SR5 DCSB with just a moonroof would be my dream 3rd gen but there's no way I could get Toyota to make it unfortunately.

 

Loved my 2006 SR5 4WD for 10 years. Just ordered another one. Red, SR5, alloys, V6 4WD. Been running 265/75/16's and doing the same on the new one. All the truck I need and love the looks. Access cab for me.
