    howsit going everyone,
So after a LOT of researching on here I've decided to just make a thread on this subject, due to a lot of info revolving for either 2nd gen tacomas, or 265 size tires.

I have a 99' Tacoma Xtra cab TRD 4x4 with toytec coilovers, all pro hd expedition leaf pack and 5125's. I forgot to do pre measurements, but the post measurements from ground to bottom of flare is 40" rear on the dot, and 39" front on the dot. 1" rake = perfect for my liking (I camp/fish as much as possible)

Now so far I've test fitted a coworkers 285/75/16 and it doesn't rub at all up front (lock to lock as well) however, he has no idea what Backspacing or offset it is. Bummer.

From what I've found on here is that anything less than 4.5" Backspacing can clear 285's, is that even correct?

I was planning on running a Mickey Thompson classic iii with 3.625 Backspacing, in either a 0 or 12 offset. Wondering what everyone's opinions were about this, or what is recommended.

    Appreciate the help!

Btw, here's my old 4Runner I just sold, and the current build

My KMC Enduros had 4.5" of BS and rubbed the frame on hard turns.

I'm currently running the same wheels you had on your 4Runner (4" of BS) and have zero frame rub.

I didn't want to cut any more than I had to, so I stayed away from low BS wheels. Just my .02

    Beautiful T4R!

5100's all around, 2.75 inch lift, polyurethane body mounts, gibson exhaust, variation of the deckplate mod, intake resonators removed 285-75-16 goodyear AT
I'm running 285-65-16's with stock rims 4.5 backspacing and 3/4" spacers on the front, about 2.5 inches of lift and no problem. Without the spacers they rubbed on the frame at full lock but only just barely. Offset is more an issue in relation to the centerline of the rim and will change in relationship to the rims overall width if the back spacing remains the same.

Funny, I'm in a similar situation. I'm also looking at the MT classic iii wheels and wanted to get 285/75-16 but didn't know if the would rub, or what other tire size options would be good (maybe 285/70?).

    Nice 4runner btw!

Thanks for the responses and compliments.
There's some beautiful 16x8 procomp 4.5" backspacing rims sold locally on CL right. Super super tempting, but I'm going to pass on them.

So looks like the sweet spot range would be <4.25" but >3.5" (if you want the stance...which I could care less about)

Not too sure if there's many tire choices for that size

How do you know what offset your stock wheels are? I have the stock steel wheels on my '13 Prerunner and P245/75R16 tires. Also, how do you know the wheel size I.e. 16x7 or 16x8? Thanks. I need to know because I'm thinking about new wheels and tires all around.
I know this is a first gen thread but I couldn't find this info on others. Thanks.

Hmm. Just put " back spacing vs offset" into Google, several articles come up.

It's two ways to measure the same thing.

If you Google for "Tacoma wheel offset" or "Tacoma wheel backspace" several threads from here show up discussing what you need to clear different tires.
