Wow, Great looking truck, I think I have its OLDER brother (3200 miles already). I am definitely sure you must have had it raised at least 2 or 3 inches. Here is a pic of mine. Yours is definitely higher! You have a gorgeous truck. This is my FIRST TOYOTA as well, and I absolutely LOVE IT. Welcome to Taco Land!

Definitely front and rear lift..Would look good with some 33'' KO'S..

 

I only found out after I changed tires. Went to 265/75/16 and get to my turns about a 100 yards ahead of the map. Adjusted so it works for me.

 

I'm curious. Why would tire size affect a GPS? My $79 Garmin keeps track of where I am using the GPS satellites. I know different size tires will cause ODO and speed differences, but this is the first time I've ever heard of this.

 

after further looking around today i confirmed the front and rear were lifted. Looks like blocks in back and a spacer above top of shock or something. I cant believe it rides so good. will this wear my shocks out or anything? dealer did all work

 

I think he just misspoke and meant the ODO/speedometer and said GPS by accident. It wouldn't matter what size tires you had on that truck, the GPS would stay the same.

ECT=Electronically Controlled Transmission. Just changes the shift points to higher RPM's. More "power" but lower gas mileage. If you're feeling sluggish, engage it....you'll get up to speed faster.

 

I am talking about the factory GPS in the head unit. Some about measuring tire rotation.
my 2015 says that in the manual. will look up page location.

Well I'll be damned.....you were right. I stand corrected sir. There was a whole freaking list of things that could make it display a wrong position. I wonder if it uses the tire turning data during the times it's not getting a GPS signal?

Here is the bit from my owners manual it was page 245 for the 2014 tacoma.

After replacing a tire: P.236 INFORMATION

● This navigation system uses tire turning data and is designed to work with factory-specified tires for the vehicle. Installing tires that are larger or smaller than the originally equipped diameter may cause inaccurate display of the current position. The tire pressure also affects the diameter of the tires, so make sure that the tire pressure of all 4 tires is correct.

 

It does more than just change the shift points.

Not sure why you chose to get defensive here but it did add to the conversation.....another NON 3rd gen owner trying to tell one what their truck does and does not do.

Do you own a '16? Have you driven with the ECT button on and off? If not, then there really is no reason to start chiming in.

I do have a '16 and have driven it with and without the ECT button on and I'm telling him that it does more than change the shift points. I'm not an engineer but it definitely changes throttle response as well.

Got an 2015 because I wasn't sure about a 3.5 being able to pull a travel trailer in the mountains. My trailer in a conservative 3100 lbs.
What are your first impressions of the power curve of the 3.5?
