So I wanted to start off by saying i dont go on here a lot, well i do, but i dont partcipate a lot (hectic schedule and what not) so i am going to break the silence with this thread

so i am making custom RI Dually light covers because I dont want to spend 40$ on something that i will barely used and that might get lost or stolen so i decided to make my own (I might eventually buy them if this doesnt turn out well)

First I bought a piece of sheet metal from my local hard ware store 1' by 1' the cheapest I could find and then made a rough (really rough) template of what I wanted them to be

    then traced it
    [IMG]

I then began to cut the sheet metal with my Dremel in the shape I made with the template (no pictures of me cutting it because I had no one to take the picture and I was so into it i forgot to take pictures of the process... I get that way)
    it ended up like this
    [IMG]

it doesn't line up exactly how i want it but it seems like it will work

I might re do it so it lines up the way I wanted it to but when I am finished I will see how it holds and maybe just keep it the way it is and as a note this is no where near completed if anyone was wondering. I still need to grind, shape, and paint so this is a work in progress I will continue to keep this forum updated on the progress and how it turns out.

and I would like to apologize if this post seems sloppy i tried doing it 3 times on my ipad and the page kept resetting so I did it 3 times when i finally moved to my laptop and finished it there, I didnt know if there was a way to go to an old draft or not so i just re did it

Good idea I suppose, I know that there are tinted covers out there also. Are you putting a cover on to protect the front? I probably wouldn't put anything on mine since I use them all the time and it would be too much of a hassle to take the covers on and off again. I am not worried about the lenses breaking either since they are pretty much bulletproof.

Yeah I use mine a lot, I am doing this because here in NH you have to have light covers on any off road lights that are higher than your hood in order to pass inspection (actually it's 42inches but that's around where my hood is) so it's just to make it legal

I am looking for complete blacked out that's what I need for the law here unfortunately I don't have a 4 wheel parts here and I have spent 6 dollars on sheet metal which I can prolly make at least two sets of these. So far this is the cheapest option, more time consuming but cheaper

Good deal. I'm all for making things yourself if buying it doesn't make sense. I know I've cheaped out on certain things on my truck, but you wouldn't be able to tell if I didn't point it out to you...

Although they're cheaper on 4wheel parts, the shipping cost will negate any savings if you don't qualify for free shipping. Amazon prime FTW.

When the powder coat on my led pods started fading, I hit them with a couple coats of Plastidip. Good as new.
