    this

it does need to be steep (op's deg should be steep enuf)

it will creep a tiny bit then brake computer will go nuts and hold you, then
go nuts and you creep a tiny bit-repeat-repeat until you step on gas and go

My Ram that I traded in for the Tacoma would hold you on a hill in drive with foot off brake for as long as needed. Same with every other vehicle I've ever had that was an automatic. Never had hill start assist on any of my manuals, just quick feet haha. At the dealer now, so we'll see what they say....

You called it! Said it was normal bc they tested another truck on the lot and it acted the same way. He said it won't hold on a steep hill...so what the hell is the point of it?!? Hopefully enough people take their trucks in and Toyota issues a tsb for it. Guess for the time being, I'll left foot brake on steep hills :-/

The crawl control I could find very handy but I am with you on the GoPro mount.

Very true, but I did a very very steep and very rocky Pennsylvania culth road off road trail here in Colorado with my 2010 Taco and it was so freaking rough that sometimes your foot on the accelerator got jerked either off of deeper in the throttle allowing the wheels to spin when they shouldn't resulting in coming to a complete stop. A feature that electronically control the throttle could come in handy sometimes. I would still prefer to just use the throttle tho but I can see how this can help. FWIW

Have the same issue, was on a slight incline, truck started rolling back and then when i hit the gas it makes a clunking sound and does not go. Had to hit the brake and then start again. Seems like a case of something being over engineered, not sure about the rest of you, but when I depress the accelerator I expect the truck to accelerate, not continue to roll back and make a sound like something is broke. wtf ??

On some Toyota cars, you have to press the brake peddle down hard to engage the system. I will give it a try the next time an opportunity presents itself.

Clutch in, in gear, foot on brake. Release brake pedal and brakes keep you from rolling back 2 sec or so then they release. Plenty of time to engage clutch.

I have noticed a consistent 1 second of support on any hill on my 6MT. I did not expect this truck to have that feature, but if it indeed is hill start assist, I will be quite happy! It will not do it while reversing up a hill however. I'm looking forward to this when I hook up a trailer!

Just tried it on my 16 OR AT. Even after pressing the brake hard, it would still drift back. I am guessing it is only a MT thing.

Absolutely love this feature and made the first big Hill stop I made on my way home a pleasure.

Do you need to know, or care?
Mine doesn't drift back at all. Locks up tight for the 2 seconds, as indicated in the manual. AT tranny.

This is a conclusively inconclusive thread! Some MT people claim to have it and some say they don't. Some AT people say they have it and some say they don't. Which means I still don't know if I have it and it's not working or I just don't have the feature. Can we try to pin this down a little more? Is it a premium tech package thing?

It's not on the tech package, its on all the manuals, with no other options required. Manuals only
