I've seen some nice vests for field dogs that would prevent some injuries. Sadie ran into a barbed wire fence hunting pheasants. Didn't stop her, and thankfully, was just a scratch. Scary moment, though.

Amen! Where you guys been out shooting birds I hope!

I'm still looking for a skid plate vest for the pup but because he hasn't met a beaver pond, lake or river he doesn't like neoprene would be good. But I want blaze orange for upland. And not sure such a beast exist.

Hey Mike @Cold Iron , they're sold out right now but here's a vest I want to get Jax when they get it back in stock. Hardcore is a company a few of my buddies from UMD started a few years ago. They've got a bunch of neo vests too but only white and camo. Most of those guys are just waterfowl and its the reason the company is heavily focused on it. I'll give my buddy a call and see if they can make a blaze neo vest with a skid plate!

Here is the camo neo with a reinforced chest.

Marc that would be awesome and thank you very much! I was just looking at them quite literally... Over on RTF I posted in a thread about skid plate vests and someone just posted about the hardcore vests, mine is a couple of posts up from his. I want protection from all those sharp sticks around beaver ponds as well as barbed wire. I think your friends would have the market cornered on a skid plate neoprene vest in blaze, just saying...

Nice link! I poked around a bit but didnt see a full neoprene blaze vest with chest protection. I found something close but not quite.

Mike ( and whomever else may be interested) I contacted Matt at hardcore and he's going to make sure "product development" gets the pitch. He thought it was a good idea and that it makes sense for us upland guys. Hopefully it doesn't end there, i'd love their vest in blaze, they've got good stuff that seems to be reasonably priced.

I sure hope hardcore takes the ball and runs with it! Yeah agree with gundog supply Carl first place I looked. Can't find anything bad about hardcore, I think if hardcore produces those vests Steve will jump on them.

Fit might be an issue for me I've measured the Toller about 6 times now. 17" neck but 29" chest throws him outside most every fit out there. In 2-3 years his chest will drop and add another 2 or so inches.

Another good place is Lion Country Supply. I do still get most of my collars from them. Still using a wheel gun with primers I do need to pick up a real starter pistol for training sometime.

Since I mostly trained alone I thought most blanks were too loud for intro to gunfire as close as I'd be to the dog, so I bought a cap gun at WalMart. When I had a helper I used the blank gun.

I wanted to get the Alpha .22 starter pistol but even the .22 blanks are on back order. The folks convinced me to get the .209 primer wheel gun. Just got it. Haven't fired it yet. Seems like a very solid pistol, and comes highly recommended by fellow dog owners, and trainers I know.

That's what the trainers I'm around use. Also claim primers are lots cheaper than blanks

Have not been on Tacoma world for a while but this post was the only thing I could think about when going on the computer. I remember reading about people and their dogs and how difficult it was to say goodbye to them when its time. I think that time is now for my dog. She is 14.5 years old and was fine until sunday. She started having blood in her stool and after two days of vet checks she got very ill with low red cell count. They diagnosed her with low platelet because of IMT (Immune-mediated thrombocytopenia). I always thought the time would come where I had to let go but this just not feel right. One day she is jumping around with me and 2 days later shes lying in a vet stall and close to gone. Just seeing here there kills me. Her red blood cell count was so low they needed to do a blood transfusion, but if this doesnt help soon I will have to make the hard decision of putting her down. I just cant let her pass by herself it would kill me. I think she had a great life so far and everyone went in to see her today. I cant stress to anyone how difficult this is and anyone who has gone through it I feel for you. Its to the point where I dont know what to think or do about it....
