    Either/or. It's the friction between the two. Obviously I'd rather not use tape- but fill up the hollow door, it's still gonna have friction where it touches the rubber on the cab side. Im just not understanding how that would fix the problem.

    As I said, I know for certain on mine that it is the rubber on the cab side, squeaking on the metal above the window (where the OP put the tape). I can stop the squeak by pressing the rubber on the cab side while I'm driving. In fact, the sound will stop for a couple minutes after I remove the pressure. So, on mine that is the source. Same as OP.

    @harpolith , I agree with you. I think TommyG is solving a different issue than you (and I) have.

    FWIW, I put vinyl elec tape on the suspected area and that did not help.

    for not giving up ! This is definitely one, and the most annoying noises in my door ! i have been lubing and trying different things to no avail. i seen this post before and thought that's not it , well after zeroing on noise THAT'S IT, or 1 of them a least THANK YOU ! that creaking in my ear was really making me regret my purchase, i hope this is a long term no maintenance fix.
    by the way how do you like the dura tracs i see in back ground ? and nice organized garage !

    Thanks. It was 35' F this morning and it was silent. The garage is the closest thing to a man-cave I have. I try to keep it organized. I've not used the Duratracs for anything yet. Bought them mainly for the snow or the occasional trip off the pavement. We'll see when the white stuff starts to fly. Am I highjacking my own thread? o_O

    Sorry guys I totally brain farted and got in truck today to remembered I also added this tailgate seal ( same place you guys put tape) with the foam I put in the door. That might help. :frusty:

    My bad. Leftover tailgate seal and also makes the door nice and snug.

    That tailgate seal looks a little more intrusive than the tape... It's my last hope though so I'll be trying it.

    Can anyone figure out why the passenger side doesn't make the noise?

    It kind of blends in with the door seal. I forget it's there. You can cut and shape or use more or less.

    Every vehicle I've owned has had some sort of noise I've had to track down and solve. But the irritation level of this noise, the variety of sources in a small spot and the numerous fixes for it are mindblowing to me! Can't believe there isn't one fix for this!

    I've tried friction tape in the areas highlighted as well as greasing the weatherstrips with silicone. It's been coming back after about a month, now with the temps dropping it's coming back more frequently.

    After seeing the fix from @TommyG, I'm going to try something in the middle today. Tape is too thin, I don't have thick tailgate seal like that laying around so I'm going to run to Home Depot for some foam weatherstripping like this to put in the same place the OP was putting tape:

    I am going to use some weatherstrip as well since tape has had little to no effect for me. The stuff you linked is way too thick though, IMO.

    I agree, thinner would be better. That was just the first stuff I found on HD's site to share with everyone exactly what I was thinking. Maybe even some 3M double sided tape without removing the protective material from the other side??

    It actually thins out ( smashes down after a few days). I haven't had noise since I put foam inside and added this.

    How did you get it to stick? Is there already an adhesive on the back of that tailgate seal material?

    Yes. I had left over from my tailgate. I think I paid $ 14 for it on Amazon. But you could prob use 3m tape with some other ( non sticking) seal or rubber.

    Instead of putting something on the door to make contact with the body side weatherstrip, can something be put BEHIND the body side weatherstrip to push it towards the door?

    This would be much harder to notice and may work better?
