Six speed manual still available?

Hello: Does anyone know if the six cylinder engine is still available with the six speed manual transmission? Thanks.

 

Welcome to the site and as far as I know they are going to continue to make the 6-speed in 09. I would personally recommend the auto, its a better transmission (I have owned both)

 

First welcome. Havent heard of the 6spd going away for 09 models. Your in Portland, so Berlin City Toyota should still have some 08's around that you can probably get a great deal on.

I actually first test drove a 6spd there in 04, and thats what I went with, yrs later, no regrets. Drive each and decide for yourself what you like.

 

It should still be available. Get the six speed, it's better then the auto. Not as good gas mileage. But how is a computer supposed to know when you wanna shift?

 

Yes they still make it. The Auto is better. The gearing on the Auto provides better fuel economy while giving you excellent throttle response. The six speed is annoying slow to shift. Even with an SS kit.

I have driven a great deal of cars, trucks, and performance vehicles in my life. Honestly, the Auto in the Taco is by far the best Auto transmission I have ever seen.

 

I agree the Tacoma auto transmission is the nicest auto I've ever driven. I still got the 6 spd manual because that fits my personality best and have no regrets, though it is a bit different than anything I've ever had before. I liked the old 5 spd Tacoma transmission best of all.

 

LOL, this thread turned into another auto vs manual tranny thread. Looks like the original poster has already made up his mind. I guess we can quit the campaigning LOL.

Don't be offended but we were all experts when we were young. While I often agree with you, I feel your life experiance still has a ways to go before being definitive at 17 years old.

Bought my Tundra from them a few years back. They always have tons of trucks. The online tacoma inventory shows 29 tacomas & show 4 cyl manuals & a couple 6 cyl ones. If they are not in Portland, their dealership in Gorham has em.
Work the Leftover new market for sure, there are deals to be had!!

 

Thank you for the welcomes and the suggestions. I now have a 1999 F150 with a V6 and five speed manual that I like a lot. However, with 176,000 miles on it, I'm thinking about what I'll get for a replacement truck when that time comes. I drove a Frontier with a four cylinder and five speed manual and didn't like it. I drove a friend's 2007 Tacoma with a four cylinder and five speed manual and liked it a lot except for the gear noise when accelerating. I was surprised at how quiet the engine was and how well it went even at low rpms. So the next step is to try a six cylinder, six speed manual Tacoma if I can find one. While automatics may be better in some ways, I simply prefer a manual and since I'm retired, I usually can avoid commuter traffic where a manual isn't so good. Thanks again.
