Transmission Pan replacement

I have a transmission pan who's drain plug is stripped out so I need a new one.

Any suggestions? I'd rather not go to the dealer or junkyard/ebay so any quality on-line retailers I should check out?

local dealer wants $110. Part # 35106-34020

Didn't find any on eBay nor in a casual Google search. Is the dealer or junk yard my only options?

 

Found this parts list but can't find a retailer that sells it by that part number!

 

Why are you replacing the entire pan if it's only the drain plug that is stripped? Did you try a new plug and gasket and still had a leak?

 

Is it just the plug thats stripped our is the heliocoil and everything stripped? Its not too hard to get a new bolt and rethread the heliocoil, probably alot cheaper too.

 

The drain plug was a bear to break loose and it just spins in the threads; will not tighten back nor will it be fully removed. I have tried all I can and also took it to Advanced where my good friend works and he cannot get the plug out and says a heliocoil will not suffice.

 

Original pan and most likely original gasket and filter. I had a leak around the pan so in trying to replace the gasket and filter I was unable to get the plug out and had to drain the fluid by taking all the bolts out and draining by prying a corner of the pan off and being patient.

On the plug is stripped, appears supremely cross threaded.

 

local transmission place says he can "patch" weld my pan with a piece from a 19 bolt (4x4) pan for about $25. Cut out the drain plug area and replace from different pan so plug is still usable.

Beats $110 new from factory and no junkyards around have a pan for a V6 2WD so...


Good idea or not?

 

Gotcha...well there's another option. I did it with an oil pan. Took the whole oil pan off, took it to a machine/weld shop and they cut out the old drain and welded me a new one. It's a cheap solution i think.

 

You mean bungholio? Really, what's a new bung welded in mean?

 

Same concept but with the transmission pan. I'm going to assume becuase Id o not know any better that being patched properly will make it just as durable as the factory equipped and will not blow out while driving or spring a leak because of the weld.

 

I did it with an old vw scirocco...yeah it worked pretty good.

 

Got the pan back and even though the guys told me they would cut out old and weld in new all they did was get the bolt out, still charged me $25!

I'm thankful they got the bolt out and it appears to be able to maintin a good bite but charging $25 to do it! Don't think I'll ever go back there...


Anywho got the gasket up and pan mounted but the filter kit I bought did not have the correct filter...Oreilly's does not seem to have a good description in their DB when it comes to Tacoma transmissions. So I cleaned it best I could with a pressure washer up close and some carb cleaner and let it dry today.

I bought 12 qt's of Oreilly's global ATF, anybody ever use this stuff? They have a limited selection and no mobil 1 that's for sure. My plug says DXII and this is compitable so any experience with this stuff?
