Really looks like a case of "what do you want in a truck". Colorado has some better #'s for torque/tow/mpg, but its $7-9,000 more... so it better be better somewhere.

Based on quality the Taco will still be the winner in 5-10 years though, IMO.

For all you 0-60 junkies, Toyota's 3.5L is faster than the 2.8L diesel even with 3000k lbs in the bed :spy:

And predictable. All these diesel fan boy's probably never drove a diesel. They are dogs when it comes to acceleration. I have a feeling the bandwagon is going to get some empty seats once people have had a chance to drive it.

I find it really interesting that the bad-ass towing diesel loses to the Taco in the Davis Dam "Frustration" test by a significant margin. That is horsepower for you! 278 in the Taco vs. 181 in the diesel chevy.

And the cheap-o drum brakes on the TRD OR beat the $47k chevy in braking distance and nearly equal the lighter chevy (3 ft longer).

I've driven a few diesels. The torque is nice for towing and the MPG is great but I'm still a fan of gas engines. Especially supercharged or turbocharged gas engines

There is a "-" next to the 0-60 for the heavy chevy with the full payload. Does that mean it never got to 60 mph???

Maybe they ran out of runway. The highest number listed is 25.3s. So fully loaded it's probably 30s+? Good luck merging on the freeway with that!

Chevy LT stopped in 122 feet, that was 3 feet shorter than TRD OR with boosted brakes ... and >10< ft shorter than Sr5 which was 2wd too..

Acceleration, nothing new, every Diesel has a lag which costs a second or two. Even VW Golf with special Turbo had a lag. Its not a lack of Torque. Thats why Titan XD has dual turbo setup (small Turbo to kick in first faster, than bigger for Torque for final power) yet Titan has 0-60 only 9.6 Seconds

Now what was the acceleration time of the Tacoma with 7600 LB trailer ? :D

Why are you towing a 7600lb trailer with a Tacoma

Diesel doesn't accelerate poorly because of "lag" but because of HP. Diesels generally have low HP (you should know this; its been discussed before) because of its they generally have low peak RPM's. The fact that its torque is peaking so early means there is very little and probably not noticeable turbo lag.

    Probably would still have won.

Because BlueT, like most, believe towing is dictated by the engine. I would hesitate to tow 7600lbs with the Colorado, Diesel or no.

What about the Davis Dam test? That test has nothing to do with turbo lag or drag racing. It's pulling up a 7% grade from 50-70 to make a pass. The Tacos both tested at 7.0s while the chevys were at 8.3 and 11.6s.

Tow ratings are great if you need to tow a 7000 lb trailer but the truth is the diesel is dog slow under all conditions. 181hp is very light even for a midsized truck.

For comparison, my smaller, lighter truck with 190hp (and 4.10 gears) accelerates about as fast as molasses in winter.

In general I pay little attention to what ..<insert word here>.... people are discussing. If what you saying had any merit, Cummins, VW, Toyota, Ford etc would spent more time lighten up their diesels and less trying to develop two stage turbos, variable vane turbos etc to reduce lag.
Apparently you know better than Engineer in Cummins who developed two stage turbo for Titan XD. You should publish your theory and see maybe there is Nobel price for you.
    :D
When it comes to towing, I have no problem towing whatever has been labeled as approved.

Its a diesel thing. Every Diesel I owned had lag, some more some less. My Golf Tdi had lag despite VW putting one of the smartest Turbos in it to minimize it. You could be driving up the hill, decide to floor it, and nothing happens for like a second, than its like somebody light up Saturn V rocket behind you.
I want to drive Titan XD because two stage Turbo should minimize that significantly.
Thats why Diesel is unpopular with Formula 1 but very popular in Truck driving. You dont get acceleration but you get pulling power.
